Cowboy Posted October 21, 2016 #1 Posted October 21, 2016 After a 7900 miles and 28 days on the road the 2004 RSV Midnight is needing a little TLC. Rear brakes need rebuilding and wondering if I just need to go back with standard parts or go with an upgrade? I have tried reading and searching for a complete write up on improving the rear brakes on Second Generations, to much info and not enough complete info. I think I would like to go with Stainless Steel lines! Who sells exact replacements? How do you rebuild the calipers / master cylinder? Should the I replace / upgrade the rear calipers? Pictures of Upgrade! Who has Stainless Steel lines for replacement the front lines? Rebuild kits for the front calipers or do I upgrade to a different set of front calipers? Any pictures of upgrades? Who has Stainless Steel lines for replacement on the clutch? How do you replace the clutch line and how many lines are involved? Thanks in advance as always. Brian Shoemaker
bongobobny Posted October 21, 2016 #2 Posted October 21, 2016 Skydoc_17 should supply you with most if not all of your needs. My feeling, well, if you are going to rebuild, why not go all the way?!!? Go with new /rebuilt R1/R6 front calipers. Do not do excessive upgrades on rears as they already have a tendency to lock up. With the R1/R6 also install a 14mm master cylinder to make the upgrade effective. Do some searching on this site for additional information, but we are glad to offer you help and info as needed... Clutch lines, 1 of them, just from the MC to the steel line from what I remember.
Cowboy Posted October 21, 2016 Author #3 Posted October 21, 2016 Anyone with pictures of the R1 /R6 front calipers?
Cowboy Posted June 12, 2017 Author #5 Posted June 12, 2017 Cost OEM Rebuild Kit for Rear Brake Caliper is as much as an just buying the whole new Rear Brake Assembly. Does anyone have a supplier for the seals and pistons for the rear brakes. Looks like I need (8) seals & (4) pistons. I know I should not have to replace the pistons. So I will make that call when I get a price for the seals. Could not find a kit from K&L Brakes Any Suggestions Thanks

videoarizona Posted June 17, 2017 #7 Posted June 17, 2017 Rear is only a 2 piston caliper. RR I was just looking at the parts fische. Looks like a 4 piston unit. If so Cowboy, I would recommend you look into a single piston from a Road Star (?) or a 2 piston from another bike...R1 or R6 ??? Others know more than I. I'm looking into replacing my rear caliper on my RSV as I think Mom Yamaha put way to much caliper on the rear...having experienced a rear lock up that almost put me away. So if anyone has done this both Cowboy and myself could use some help here...
RedRider Posted June 18, 2017 #8 Posted June 18, 2017 Rear is only a 2 piston caliper. RR I stand corrected. It is, indeed, a 4 piston caliper. And, at least mine, has new rear brake pads. RR
aharbi Posted June 18, 2017 #9 Posted June 18, 2017 Give him a call. Tell him what you need. I replaced brake and clutch lines with clear SS from him. It was like I installed power brakes on the bike. You may like it so much no need to replace calipers. just sayin :-) https://secure.ivytech.com/buckeyeperformance.com/orderform.htm
