Last year I replaced 1 of the 2 furnaces in my house $1600 (cracked heat exchanger), while that was being done I fired up my fireplace only to find that it had a rotted casing (heatolator type) $2000 to rebuild hearth. Next the bike needed a stator. Yesterday we went to start up the 2nd furnace for the first time this year, NO HEAT! found that the inducer fan wheel rusted and fell apart. This unit is a packaged gas heat/AC unit on a slab outside that is 13 years old, the inducer assy. is about $200, so before buying it I thought it a good idea to inspect the heat exchanger on it, YEP wouldn't ya know... 2 rust holes on 1 tube so I am now waiting to hear if the heat exchanger is still covered by warranty. the unit is a carrier 3 ton, 90K I really need to hit the lotto this week !

I might be able to come up with a used inducer assembly. Heat exchangers on those little Carriers are SUPER easy to replace. Takes one guy about a half hour to 45 minutes. If you want me to try to get one wholesale, lemme know. Just sayin'

Just sayin' Thanks for the offer but with the heat exchanger and draft inducer shot and the unit being 13 years old, I'm just going to replace it. I have a hunting buddy in the HVAC business thats going to install a new unit. Either a carrier or bryant gas packaged 3 ton, 90k. Both are made by the same company, which would you recommend? I don't have model numbers yet but both are single stage. We will be selling this place in the next 5 years so im not gonna pony up for the high end equipment. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk

uncledj Posted October 12, 2016 #9 Posted October 12, 2016 Like you said, Carrier and Bryant are the same. Not similar...identical....except for the nameplate. Parts are completely interchangeable. Bryant will probably be a bit cheaper.....as I think on the base model, they omit the low / hi pressure safeties, which are there only to protect the compressor in the event of condenser fan failure or refrigerant loss. Bryant would be fine. Stay away from York. Trane's OK IMHO Lennox is the best, but they've been slipping a bit over the last few years.....still my first choice though. The Carrier or Bryant will slide right in, as all electrical / duct connections will be exactly the same as on the old unit. Best of luck. Feel free to ask if you have any questions.

I LOVE OUR FAMILY!!!:clap2::clap2: Now,, as far as ol Murphy and his strange concept of law,, as far as I am concerned,, something should have been written in those laws pertaining to being applicable to age.. Meaning that once a person gets over 60 years of age there should be a addendum therein that requires Murph to back off a little
uncledj Posted October 12, 2016 #11 Posted October 12, 2016 FLORIDA is callin' ya'll A.C has to work though--------------- My older brother retired about a year and a half ago, and moved down to Big Pine Key, about halfway between Marathon and Key West. He's been tryin' to get me to move down there.....called the other day and said a local HVAC company is advertising for an experienced tech at $39 an hour. That's a bit more than I make, but I've a good retirement building and I'm not gonna walk away from that before it's where it needs to be for a comfortable retirement. When we retire, Wife and I may buy a shack down there to Winter in, or maybe just live in the RV if we can find a place to park it long term. Still have some time to figure it out.
