Jdafixa Posted October 8, 2016 #1 Posted October 8, 2016 I'm looking into some aftermarket baffles to quiet my 01 down. Wondering how much effect it has on tuning/performance. We spend a lot of time putting around on back roads and we ( the wife and i) want our bike as quiet as possible.
Flyinfool Posted October 8, 2016 #2 Posted October 8, 2016 What mufflers do you have on it now. The stock unmodified ones are pretty quiet. Most people that put on aftermarket pipes are looking to make it louder. Yes there are some that go aftermarket for looks. If you have aftermarket on there now I bet it would not be hard to find someone to swap you a set of stockers for your louder ones.
bongobobny Posted October 8, 2016 #3 Posted October 8, 2016 I once found that a pair of Datsun mufflers had the right diameter, offset and length but never followed through with it. Yup, if you are looking for Gold Wing quiet then even the stock RSV mufflers are just a tad loud. Chances are somebody may have drilled small holes in the back of the stock ones to make it a little louder or put aftermarket ones on. As far as back pressure, well the RSV carbs are set up to be a little rich to begin with, and I don't think what little extra backpressure quieter mufflers would give would effect performance that much...
djh3 Posted October 9, 2016 #4 Posted October 9, 2016 I liked the OEM's for touring. The Harley touring mufflers are decent. Usually you can find a pair for around 40 bucks or so. I have heard that some HD dealers will let a pair go for next to nothing.
