luvmy40 Posted September 28, 2016 #1 Posted September 28, 2016 I found these carb rebuild kits ob fleabay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/4x-Carburetor-Carb-Repair-Rebuild-Kit-Yamaha-VMX12-V-Max-XVZ1300-Venture-18-2879-/311680431557 Any idea what may be different from the 83 1200 carbs? I.e. will any of the components fit my carbs? I can't seem to find any rebuild kits that are speced to fit the 83 carbs.
garyS-NJ Posted September 28, 2016 #2 Posted September 28, 2016 I thought the 83-85 venture carbs same and same jet kit.. Then the 86 1300 & Vmax had bigger carb bore & jets.. Someone check me. Sent from my VS987 using Tapatalk
mmaleney Posted September 28, 2016 #3 Posted September 28, 2016 Everything will fit except float needle and the brass housing for the needle, you're 83 float needle should be all metal even the taper part, 84 on has the rubber type taper that is how you know the difference. That was my finding from a few years back.
luvmy40 Posted September 28, 2016 Author #4 Posted September 28, 2016 That's what I was hoping to hear. Nothing wrong with the float valves in mine.
Condor Posted September 28, 2016 #5 Posted September 28, 2016 The 83 carbs have the vacuum for the sensor coming from the Venturi rather than the manafold.....
luvmy40 Posted September 28, 2016 Author #6 Posted September 28, 2016 Does that change anything in the rebuild kit. I'd think not as only the No.2 carb has the sensor port.
Condor Posted September 28, 2016 #7 Posted September 28, 2016 Does that change anything in the rebuild kit. I'd think not as only the No.2 carb has the sensor port. Since I have no idea what's in the rebuild kit I'll let someone else field that question...
yamagrl Posted September 30, 2016 #8 Posted September 30, 2016 Everything in the rebuild kit is the same except for the needle valve and seat. It can be used but you have to replace both halves of the "needle valve and seat" The seat is replaced by removing the plug on the outside top of the carb body. If you replace it you should also replace the filter screen in there also. Here is the breakdown for 1986 Items 38, 39,40 http://www.partzilla.com/parts/search/Yamaha/Motorcycle/1986/XVZ13DS/CARBURETOR/parts.html Here is a pic from this post by @Prairiehammer about replacing the seat and removing the plug. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?96821-Carb-Trouble&p=890733#post890733
