utadventure Posted September 20, 2016 #1 Posted September 20, 2016 I went to fill the '99 the other day and it wouldn't start at the station. I was able to use my Anti-Grav and start the bike and get back home about 1/2 mile. My first instinct with the voltage readings was that the Reg/Rec was faulty. I ordered a new one and when I went to install it, I noticed the connector had partially melted in the R/R. This gave me hope!! But with the new one, it was the same. The next likely issue was the stator. I took it to a trusted shop to have changed out. This is what they found: Just a little burnt! They have installed the new OEM stator, soldered the three white wires instead of a connector. Now the battery shows 12.7 volts and measures 13.67 while running at idle. I'll be taking more measurements tomorrow. Thanks Condor for the help and direction. I doubt the old R/R is faulty (other than the melted connector), so I'm keeping it as a spare, if ever needed. :cool10:
ragtop69gs Posted September 20, 2016 #2 Posted September 20, 2016 I'll be doing that job very soon, my stator died while at the International Rally IN WEST VIRGINIA . Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
camos Posted September 20, 2016 #3 Posted September 20, 2016 The next likely issue was the stator. I took it to a trusted shop to have changed out. Changing out the stator is not a very difficult job, I've now done three of them. The first one was the most difficult because I broke one of the screws that hold the stator in but the other two took about three hours to do... each of course. I'm not the fastest at doing anything.
