Final Drive Dip Stick measurments?

My Venture was purchased sans tool kit so I have no final drive dip stick. Can anyone give the measurements for on so I can make myself one?

Some people have made themselves nice little dipsticks to measure this. I just use the end of my machinist calipers extended out 1 inch. Measuring from the top of the hole, the oil should be 24 to 26mm below that level. Basically one inch. Bike should be on center stand for this measurement. I don't have a center stand so I just level it up as best as I can.

And if you want the original dipstick, the part number is 2H7-2815A-00-00. This dipstick is also used on the XS11 and until recently was available for about $10 from your friendly Yamaha dealer. There might still be some around at dealers, alternately, try eBay.

The owner's manual for my 89 says fill it to the brim of the fill hole. Is the dipstick something that only the earlier Ventures needed?

The dipstick was for the MkI's, 83 to 85.
