sho_greg Posted September 8, 2016 #1 Posted September 8, 2016 What do I need to know in order to modify the front wheel?? Are all metric front wheels the same?
bongobobny Posted September 8, 2016 #2 Posted September 8, 2016 OK the only one I know of for sure is the Stratoliner 18" wheel which is plug and play IF (as I was told) you use the Strat rotors as well. Supposedly (I was told, didn't try) the Venture rotors will not bolt on...
BratmanXj Posted September 8, 2016 #3 Posted September 8, 2016 Off the top of my head I don't remember the research I did...but I ended up using All-Balls wheel bearings 25-1403 in the Stratoliner front wheel along with the stock Venture inner spacer that goes between the bearings. My wheel came with the Stratoliner floating rotors and wheel weight so I didn't have to re-use the Venture rotors. I do still have the wheel in the back of my shop so I'll measure the inner diameter of the rotors tonight or tomorrow to see if they'd fit.
bongobobny Posted September 8, 2016 #4 Posted September 8, 2016 Check to see if besides the bolt holes diameter, you also have to worry about the offset of the rotors, or how far off, if any, the center of the rotor is from the center of the actual disc. Could be that the rotors themselves may actually physically bolt onto the strat rim, but when you go to put the calipers on, they may not properly align with the rotors due to some kind of an offset with the strat rotors. The nice thing about the Strat rotors is they are "floating" design...

sho_greg Posted September 8, 2016 Author #6 Posted September 8, 2016 Looks good... just bought a wheel on ebay.. Thanks for the help.
bongobobny Posted September 9, 2016 #7 Posted September 9, 2016 I know that neither rotor had an offset and 90% sure the bolt pattern was the same. Sooo,I was lied to???
BratmanXj Posted September 10, 2016 #8 Posted September 10, 2016 Center opening, total diameter and bolt pattern all measure out the same between the stock venture and the stratoliner chrome floating rotors. I stood the old wheel up next to the new wheel on the bike and I don't see a reason why the rotors wouldn't be interchangeable.
bongobobny Posted September 11, 2016 #9 Posted September 11, 2016 Thanks! Yup, I was lied to by a supposed authority here too!!! I passed up a pretty good deal on Fleabay on a rim sans rotors a month or two back...

Go look at the other thread that's bouncing around about the wheel on the '98...Freebird just restored the original pictures and he's using Venture rotors on a Straoliner wheel
