mountainmanVR Posted September 5, 2016 #1 Posted September 5, 2016 Howdy All.. I am trying to determine if a industry standard metric size o-ring can be used rather than the Yamaha specific o-ring. Any thoughts or experience?
bongobobny Posted September 5, 2016 #2 Posted September 5, 2016 yes, if you can find the right size...
mountainmanVR Posted September 5, 2016 Author #3 Posted September 5, 2016 Thank you.. I picked up a 397 metric o-ring set.. I just wasn't sure if there was anything "special" about the Yamaha o-rings...
Condor Posted September 5, 2016 #4 Posted September 5, 2016 I'm lost here... What diaphargm 'O' rings?? Bob you messing with us again???
mountainmanVR Posted September 5, 2016 Author #5 Posted September 5, 2016 There are o-rings ( 93210-03119-00 O-RING) between the silver outer diaphragm cover & the carb body. Number 9 http://www.boats.net/parts/search/Yamaha/Motorcycle/1983/XVZ12TDK/CARBURETOR/parts.html.
Condor Posted September 5, 2016 #6 Posted September 5, 2016 Sure 'nuff, but it has nothing to do with the diaphragm or slide assembly. It has a lot to do with the vacuum that will make the diaphragm work. There are no 'O' rings in the diaphragm slide assembly, and that's what threw me.. However a lot of those tiny 'O' rings get legs and excape captivity. When you find the correct size please post it and their source. A lot of members... who never loose them... would like to know.... :-)
mountainmanVR Posted September 5, 2016 Author #7 Posted September 5, 2016 Will do... I really didn't intend to be confusing.. it just came out that way thru my fingers. I am also working on a 80 850 Special.... I am about ready to start tearing it apart and selling the parts on ebay.
mountainmanVR Posted September 5, 2016 Author #8 Posted September 5, 2016 .006 metric fits just perfect. 397 pc o-ring assortment from Harbor Freight.
bongobobny Posted September 5, 2016 #9 Posted September 5, 2016 Yes, I have that set too!! The only issue with "O" rings is the compound they are made of and what kind of fluid they are subjected to, and their operating temperature range. Regular nylon O rings work fine for our carb application. Jack, I was sort of confused by what he meant but ass-u-me'd that was what he was talking about...
garyS-NJ Posted September 8, 2016 #10 Posted September 8, 2016 I once tried standard o rings that looked very close in a xj550 carb set but I then had to buy o rings from the stealer at $5 each.. Can't remember if I had a metric assortment yet. Sent from my VS987 using Tapatalk
