I like this Toy Hauler

I say this Toy Hauler at a gas station not too far from Sturgis. I've never seen one like it before.

That is very true but it isn't that much different from the rest of the toy haulers. The toys are loaded in the front or the rear of all of them affecting the tongue weight in one way or the other.

They sell this type down here. Seem to be popular with the 4 wheeler crowd. down here they call them Redneck Toy haulers

The only issues I see are:

 

There is a weight limit on the deck. Not tongue weight, but structural... on most of these front deck haulers.

The ground clearance is high, meaning the ramp will be steep. That presents two problems to me: getting over the hump without bottoming out on oil pan and walking bike up two narrow ramps. Not much margin for balance errors.

 

Other than that, we are seriously looking for a toy hauler ourselves..... But I'm thinking more of the internal style.

That first pick looks like someone took a TPD Trailer and added the front extension. If the trailer had a standard tongue the tandem wheels are right where they should be. Wonder what the tongue weight is with that bike on there?? Can't be good...

I was looking at one of these smaller toy haulers.

I wanted something to haul either my Venture or a golf cart.

This 14 footer will do the job.

Because it is smaller most of the toy weight is over the axles so tongue weight added or removed is not near as much of an issue.

I only need it as a dry place to sleep, so I do not need a big fancy rig.

I have looked at those, the biggest problem with it is the deck is not wide enough to put a 2nd gen on crossways the deck is to narrow, harleys are a shorter bike.

My personal preference is having a totally enclosed hauler. Mine is a car trailer type with a forest river conversion up front. I think the open front would be great for atv's as far as not tracking in mud/gravel/sand inside. but here are a few things I've noticed with my toy hauler in the last 3 years.

 

1. IF the bike is inside when you aren't riding it, you don't have to take soft bag off or worry about locking it at night. If a storm comes up you can get the bike inside.

 

2. Never enough storage in a hauler, you can throw a few extra bags of clothes etc. in the back as well. Better than the back of my truck.

 

3. I want a separate area with walk through door for the bike, I don't worry about gas fumes etc. in living space. Also when you run bike inside at night it doesn't interfere with living space.

 

4. my fridge went out before Sturgis, I threw a mini fridge in back on one side and strapped it in. Plenty of room beside bike and it sits by my clothes duffel bags. I'm in no hurry to fix fridge now.

 

5. I need more room in garage this winter, going to put 2 bikes inside it over the winter to store them.

 

6. Just thought of this as well. 1st year I took it to Sturgis, my boys came out for a few days. I bought 2 nice cots and the boys slept back in the bike bay. I just left the bike out, and left the walk through door open later in the day so the AC could cool the back down before evening.

 

7. My hauler sits low. full width ramp door is very low angle. Easy peasy, no worries going in with bike at all. Rear frame of trailer has rollers welded underneath so nothing gets ripped out from underside when entering gas stations etc. This is a must have in my opinion (my trailer is 26 foot)

 

My ideal hauler would also have a slide. I am a big guy and the living quarters get tight. Bathroom is very small as well. If I used it more often I would probably upgrade in some fashion, but as of now it works for what I need.
