Big Auggie Posted August 30, 2016 #1 Posted August 30, 2016 Just finished fixing the top lid on my trunk. It was cracked by the lower entry holes for the back rest. I had the local body shop weld it up and then I bought a small sheet of 1/8 " ABS and glued that in behind the backrest. Any body else had their lid crack in that area
Condor Posted August 30, 2016 #2 Posted August 30, 2016 When I bought my '91VR the trunk was held on buy zip ties, and had two gaping holes right on the bottom where it attached to the rack. The tabs that the rack mounted to were even broken off. I can usually visualize what caused something, but I'm still befuddled on this one. Everything else was perfect.. What I did is used fiberglass matt as a backing wetted out with IPS 16 ABS thick viscosity ABS Adhesive on the inside... Once it set up I used something like Bondo to fill in the outside surface. Can't remember what I used, but Wild Hair turned me on to it. Since it was on the underside of the trunk I feathered it and shot it with Krylon Semi-Flat Black. Turned out great..... BTW had the tabs welded back on by a local muffler shop...

Believe I inserted a thin steel plate about 5 years ago and it is still working well.
Big Auggie Posted August 30, 2016 Author #4 Posted August 30, 2016 I'm curious as to how you attached the metal to the plastic.
