blueventure Posted August 21, 2016 #1 Posted August 21, 2016 I have a 1987 venture and clutch slips under normal riding all gears using yamalube oil and replaced disk once still slips....HELP
Freebird Posted August 21, 2016 #2 Posted August 21, 2016 You didn't mention replacing the springs or spring. That is most likely the issue. The springs get weak over time. Worn disks can cause it also but you said you replaced them already. You need to replace the springs and then make sure that you don't use any type of "energy conserving" automotive oil. You say that you use Yamalube though so that shouldn't be an issue.
rbig1 Posted August 21, 2016 #3 Posted August 21, 2016 is your clutch slave releasing? What color is your fluid? May want to bleed fluid, be prepared to have a hard time. Its easy to get air in lines
blueventure Posted August 21, 2016 Author #4 Posted August 21, 2016 Have bled many times replaced disk and springs .could pushrod be the problem?
rbig1 Posted August 21, 2016 #5 Posted August 21, 2016 I would think its the slave piston having problems. Also your not over filling reservoir by chance. You will get more reply's if you post to first gen tec forum. Or even the watering hole. Might as well join there is a wealth of knowledge from members.
blueventure Posted August 21, 2016 Author #6 Posted August 21, 2016 I replaced spring and it still slipped added another spring and it helped but still slipped. I noticed I have to force pushrod back in to make plates seat???
Condor Posted August 21, 2016 #8 Posted August 21, 2016 I replaced spring and it still slipped added another spring and it helped but still slipped. I noticed I have to force pushrod back in to make plates seat??? If you've had the two push rods and ball out you might have put them back in wrong. If you look at the rod ends there is a very tiny flat spot on one of the ends. This needs to go against the ball. If one or both round ends are against the ball it will bind in the tube. One side will be directional...both will be fubar... Does the clutch slip right from the git-go or under certain circumstances?? Different conditions will point to different possibilities.... So when does it slip???
Trader Posted August 22, 2016 #9 Posted August 22, 2016 Sounds like the same problem I had. Try cracking open the clutch line while you reassemble it. I had a problem where the I could not get the clutch to operate at all after I did plates an springs. It turned out the push rod would not stay retracted. I would push it in but by the time I had everything back in place it would creep back back out and hold the plates "open". After reassembling 3-4 times with the same result I finally released the pressure on the slave by cracking the line open until I reassembled things. This allowed the rod to stay back in place....then of course I had to bleed the clutch. I'm thinking you have the same problem....your clutch rod is not fully retracted. I was told that my solution didn't make sense ....all I know it that's what I did and it worked.
