starriders777 Posted April 16, 2008 #1 Posted April 16, 2008 I want a brighter light for my 99 it looks as if the stock is sealed beam? What options are there that won't look to different then the passing lamps. I just want a whiter beam.
KiteSquid Posted April 16, 2008 #2 Posted April 16, 2008 Your headlamp is not sealed beam, it takes an H4 bulb. I put in a H4 SERIES INTENSE WHITE bulb and am quite happy!!!!!!!!! Street legal, as apposed to putting in a HID kit, and they are quite affordable!!!! Piaa also makes that bulb in an H3 which can be put into your passing lamps if you put in the proper housing. IIRC Yamaha makes a housing that takes two H3 bulbs..........But check before purchasing!!!!!!! they are from the Roadliner and when I put on passing lamps, I will choose them!!!!!!! http://www.motorcycletoystore.com/cruiser/images/uploads/yam_pass_lmps.jpg
Guest Coasty Posted April 16, 2008 #3 Posted April 16, 2008 I replaced my stock bulb with an H4ST Sylvania Silverstar. I wanted to do the same thing your asking about. Very pleased with the results. Fairly easy mod to do. Brighted and whiter than the passing lamps. I purchased the bulb from my local auto parts store.
dray Posted April 16, 2008 #4 Posted April 16, 2008 these are in my Vstar 1100 but you could make them work in your bike too they are the PIAA super white in the head light its a H4 and i have the H3's in the passing lamps at 55watts each lights up really nice
Squeeze Posted April 16, 2008 #5 Posted April 16, 2008 Not playing Devil's Advocate here, but 75 Bucks for 2 Pieces of H4 Bulbs ?? Geeeeeeeeeee :sick: This is enough to buy a Bi-Xenon HID and this is better Light than anything you can buy in the incandescent Market. :whistling::whistling:
Bummer Posted April 16, 2008 #6 Posted April 16, 2008 Hey Squeeze, do you know if the HID systems will work with a modulator?
Squeeze Posted April 16, 2008 #7 Posted April 16, 2008 Hey Squeeze, do you know if the HID systems will work with a modulator? Nope, definitely won't work with a Modulator. HID needs constant Voltage but takes less Power than H4. HID needs a good Voltage to get started, but only uses 35 Watts instead of 55W.
BuddyRich Posted April 16, 2008 #8 Posted April 16, 2008 There's only a couple of Bi-Xenon HID's over here that use the proper bulb for hi/lo. I found several that use a sliding shield but that really doesn't work right. For the hi beam to focus correctly the filament must change position by about a 1/4 inch. I really love my HID that does this and I won't go back to regular bulbs. It was a fairly cheap set in that it was 149 for a pair of H4's. It doesn't always light correctly because when starting it, the engine can drag down the voltage till it goes out so I just put an on/off switch to the ballast power and cycle it after it starts.
Squeeze Posted April 16, 2008 #9 Posted April 16, 2008 I have only a HID 'Bulb' which moves a metal Shield when switching to High, but even while this is not the very Best, i love it and won't go back either. Well, at least as long as our LEO's don't write me too much Tickets. It's forbidden here, as almost anything else which has no Permission Paper and a fitting Number on it. Have you a Link to a Set which you used ?
BuddyRich Posted April 16, 2008 #10 Posted April 16, 2008 I think it was from here. Price is half what I paid now http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/H4-9003-9004-9007-H13-Hi-Lo-Bi-Xenon-HID-Conversion-Kit_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ36476QQihZ011QQitemZ320238242455QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
