Is it safe to assume all the plastic on my '89 Venture is of the ABS family? While pulling off some tupperware to replace my battery cables I found a crack near the speaker housing. I'm no engineer, but I wouldn't expect plastic to hold up to the bounce created by that heavy speaker! :confused24:

I think it is safe to say all the plastic is ABS, probably excluding turn signal lenses and for sure the dash panels, fairing, side covers, saddlebags and trunk are ABS. Do a search, there are a lot of threads on repairing plastic.

Yup! ABS it is! For cracks I take a dremel tool and make a V cut along the crack and fill it with the 2 part ABS plastic epoxy, makes it stronger than new. You can also use the 2 part ABS epoxy to fill in missing areas, and to bond prefabricated plastic pieces into the main piece such as the case of missing tabs, etc. The epoxy is sandable and paintable as well...

Heard good things about this stuff over on the Goldwing forums, I have not tried it.

That stuff is just another version of solvent welding. Here is a link to some anecdotal usage of my favourite solvent repair method MEK and ABS. Why pay extra for someone to bottle MEK and a bit of filler then name it and sell it for a 1000% profit.
