Don't know about lately, but there have been sidewall checking with Avons a couple of years in the past. Looks like weather checking, keep an eye on them.

new tires always feel better than the old ones we take off. So when I go to look at tire reviews I disregard any that are like "just put new ones on and man they feel great". I would hope so.

New tires always make you feel like Superman out on the road.

I have had my Avons on my 2nd gen and they have been great. Keep them pumped up just below max as written on the side wall, mine are 2 or 3 pounds under when I am alone. I have about 20,000Km on mine.

I am finding the rear tire is getting kind of flat spotted in the center so the high speed handling is not what it could be. Likely next summer I will buy a new rear. I will start a thread and ask what kind I should replace it with just for fun.

Well, 2nd Gens may be harder on tires than 1st Gens but if you are getting only 20,000 km (12,500 miles) on your Avons then finding a different tire would be advisable.

Got new Dunlop Elite 3s put on the bike today. Old E3s had over 36,000 kms (22,500 mi.) and the front was down to the wear indicators but the rear was not. Much smoother in the curves now.

I never had to worry about the Avons cracking. 4000 miles and thread was hanging out of them.

my RSV had avons on when i got the bike . I have done 3000 miles and they still have plenty of tread left . will measure tread depth tomorrow and inform you how much is left

Cracks aside, that seems kind of low. I thought Avons generally gave good mileage.

I contacted Avon about that one and they tried to claim tire pressure. They were Wrong. I just drove it off. This was on the bike that I claim 110 mph in 3rd gear and I don't give a Rats Behind what others say. I SAW IT!!

Dam , your tyre that lasted 4k miles was on a first gen, which will put a lot more stress on the carcass under acceleration:bikersmilie: , braking and cornering that a 2nd gen will ever do .

OP has RSV so will get a lot more miles from the tyres. lower power , crap front brakes , low ground clearance all result in less stress , except maybe the weight of a 2nd gen .

but i still love my 2nd gen, if i want performance i take the VFR for a ride
