Fan not turning on ?

After a week of riding in 80/90 degree weather i cant remember hearing the cooling fan coming on.

So either they are super quiet or its not working. Can anyone suggest some trouble shooting to check if fan is functioning correctly.

After 4 years with my 2006 I have yet to hear the fan come on.

The fan should not come on while riding. There should be plenty of airflow to keep things cool.

 

When I get home from a ride and let the bike idle while I take off my gear and open the doors the fan will usually kick on for a few seconds and then go back off.

 

The fan cools things down pretty quick so it does not have to run often or for very long when it does run, and it is not very loud when running, my radio can easily drown out the fan.

Well, there IS a 10 amp "Fan" fuse you could check...

 

Other than that you could unplug the fan connector and apply 12 volts and ground to the fan to see if it works. Other than that, as long as the fuse is good and the fan motor is good the only other thing that could be bad is the temperature switch. My fan almost never kicks on, I can only remember once in 90 degree weather where I was stuck in traffic for about an hour that it kicked on, and I was just a little low on coolant, the overflow bottle was almost empty...

100+ degrees here for the past week and going to be that way for the next week or so. Not only can I hear the fan come on at stoplights, I can feel the breath of Satan roasting my right foot as well.

Checked the fuse and its ok. I had a VTX for the last 4 years and the fan would come on at red lights and you could hear it. Will check the fan today running direct power to it.

I thought you guys were joking. I had to look in the Clymer manual, and sure enough, there is fan motor on a second gen Venture. Well, what do ya' know!

I know that mine has been running lately when riding in 85+ degree weather as I can feel the change in air temperature on my legs when it kicks on. I have considered running a indicator light off of it so that I know when it is running so that if it ever stops working correctly hopefully I will notice it long before the temperature light comes on. Kind of like the voltmeter that I am adding to it; I want to have a warning before it ever becomes an issue.

There is a Fan thermostat just below the radiator cap . See page 5-4 in the service manual. two wires run to it , could try to jump the wire and see if fan will run. On my 86 venture the fan thermostat quit working and i had to replace it and everything worked good. On my 06 still working good

Yah, good idea! Check first with voltmeter to see if 12 volts is coming to one side of the thermostat, then jumper to the other side. Downside if the fan motor doesn't run the fan motor may still be good and you have a bad ground on the fan motor. As long as 12 volts is getting to the temp sensor I am thinking the sensor is the most likely suspect, but other things like something stuck in the fan blade, etc could also be the issue..,.
