SilvrT Posted August 9, 2016 #1 Posted August 9, 2016 Since the demise of the $2 and $1 bill here in Canada, cashiers seem to have adopted this idea that change should be handed back based on what they were, rather than what they are. I'm referring to the Loonie and Twonie .... Coin is coin. Coin has always been handed back separate from bills so why now are they handing the twonie and loonie back with the bills, yet all other coin is handed separately? Do they not realize the difficulty it creates. The person receiving it has to then separate those coins from the bills and put them with the rest of his/her coins wherever that person keeps them. Me ... I put all coins in my pocket and bills go into my wallet. What's worse is when the cashier holds the bills in their hand with ALL coins stacked on top ... any slip of the balance and the coins spill off. Who is teaching these people about this? To me it makes no sense whatsoever. Hand me all the coins first and then the bills and don't mix them together PUHLEEZE!!
bongobobny Posted August 9, 2016 #2 Posted August 9, 2016 Hmmmm, in the States you get handed the bills with the coins on top of them...
SilvrT Posted August 9, 2016 Author #3 Posted August 9, 2016 Hmmmm, in the States you get handed the bills with the coins on top of them... Gimme back the old days when they counted your change back to you starting with the lowest denomination ... you always knew what you got and you always got the coins first. The way they do it today, it's so easy for a clerk to short change a customer.
Flyinfool Posted August 9, 2016 #4 Posted August 9, 2016 Or the clerk to short change themselves. I went to the farmers market for some veggies bought some corn on the cob for $3.50. Handed the clerk a $20. There was only $20s fresh from the ATM in my wallet. When I got home I had 2 quarters in my pocket and the non $20s in my wallet were 2 singles, and 4 $5s. That corn was my only purchase.
EtRider Posted August 9, 2016 #5 Posted August 9, 2016 "Gimme back the old days when they counted your change back to you starting with the lowest denomination" Most of them cant count unless they look at the register to tell them what it is...
RedRider Posted August 9, 2016 #6 Posted August 9, 2016 You still use cash? What, you need change for the payphone? RR
SilvrT Posted August 9, 2016 Author #7 Posted August 9, 2016 You still use cash? What, you need change for the payphone? RR nahhhhhh ... I just like to play with it in my pocket ...

Your absolutely right on clerks being able to count change. Just another sign of, Dumbing of Amercia.
Sailor Posted August 10, 2016 #9 Posted August 10, 2016 We had a power outage here one year. It affected the whole island. Everything closed except the Legion. We had lanterns, candles and the only cashiers who knew how to make change without assistance from the register.
uncledj Posted August 10, 2016 #10 Posted August 10, 2016 Confucius say "Man who keep hand in pocket feel cocky all day". nahhhhhh ... I just like to play with it in my pocket ...
bongobobny Posted August 10, 2016 #11 Posted August 10, 2016 I LOVE giving the clerk a large bill, wait for them to punch it into the cash register, and THEN say, wait, I have the exact change! Totally blows their mind, they have NO IDEA what to do...
camos Posted August 10, 2016 #12 Posted August 10, 2016 You still use cash? What, you need change for the payphone? RR Perhaps Rick needs to feel something in his pocket. I have a $5 bill in my wallet. Think it has been there for about 6 years. My CC gives me cash back on purchases and does the math for me. Win - Win.

bongobobny Posted August 10, 2016 #14 Posted August 10, 2016 Cash back?? Yah, my credit card does that!!
Sailor Posted August 10, 2016 #15 Posted August 10, 2016 When something costs $ 2.50 I will give them a five and 50 cents then watch the total confusion as they try to work out the change.
rickardracing Posted August 10, 2016 #16 Posted August 10, 2016 You still use cash? What, you need change for the payphone? RR Makes it ALOT harder to steal your identity when using cash.

rickardracing Posted August 11, 2016 #18 Posted August 11, 2016 or forging your credit card # and racking it up... You got that right. Another thing.........try not to use a credit or debit at a gas station pump. Basically.....................pay cash for everything. Sucks that it happens, but technology unfortunately breeds crime.
Freebird Posted August 11, 2016 #19 Posted August 11, 2016 Love the restaurants that have the credit card readers right at the table. Haven't seen many but it sure is a good idea. Applebee's has them. Finish your meal, swipe your card and leave. Very nice.

Hand them a dime and .03 with you $10. The wheels will just about come off with the smoke pouring out their ears.

Check the recommended tip, the 20% INCLUDES the TAX!!! I do NOT tip on tax...
camos Posted August 11, 2016 #23 Posted August 11, 2016 Cash back huh? so I guess that goes where... in your pocket? Hahahaha... No Rick the cash back is electronically credited to my CC account. There is no need to actually touch any "money" these days.
Freebird Posted August 11, 2016 #24 Posted August 11, 2016 And yet the water/waitress still gets a 20% tip!! Ya know what really frosts my cookies with those? Check the recommended tip, the 20% INCLUDES the TAX!!! I do NOT tip on tax... That may be true with some of them but the one's I've used let you change the tip. It comes up at 20% but there is an arrow press to increase or reduce it.
bongobobny Posted August 11, 2016 #25 Posted August 11, 2016 Yah, I know that Don, it's the principal of it!! Even without the Kyosks though, the "recommended" tip on receipts on most of the places compute the tip wITH the tax amount included. Othere do not include the tax. I'm reaching a point in life where if you suggest I also tip on the TAX, I probably won't eat there again... Unless the service is really bad I generally tip 20%, sometimes more, on the pre tax amount.
