SilvrT Posted August 9, 2016 #1 Posted August 9, 2016 There I was, my green light, I'm half way through the intersection and out of the corner of my right eye I see this guy blasting along on his bike, about ready to go right through HIS RED light. Luckily he saw me at the same time and we both nailed our brakes. He got stopped in time and I carried on, shaking my head as I passed by in front of him. Lucky for him as his bicycle wouldn't stand a chance against my motorcycle .. I did learn though that it's pretty easy to lock up the back wheel on this Road Star!

Marcarl Posted August 9, 2016 #3 Posted August 9, 2016 A lot of people ride bikes to beat traffic, and if that gets into their brain they develop a complete disregard for traffic rules and such. Sometimes it gets them into trouble when they don't remember some important things,,,, like,,, he is bigger than me, and if we collide I could be right, maybe even dead right. But then if he needs to stop more often he wouldn't be beating the traffic as much as he thought, so out go the rules.

You've been talking to our Mayor, haven't you!!! In the years our current Mayor has been in office there have been more bike lanes added to our city streets than affordable housing has been built And now they've added a huge "bike share" operation called Mobi with bike share stations all over the place, in most cases eliminating several vehicle (or motorcycle) parking spots. https://www.mobibikes.ca/ No mention of how the city is planning on improving the flow of traffic through the city and across the Lion's Gate bridge to the north shore though Sorry, guess I'm bordering on political rant eh?

Sent from my Z812 using Tapatalk The guy on the bicycle wasn't planning to turn right ... there was a car in front of me turning left and nobody coming from the opposite direction and I think the biker was fixated on the car so figured it was clear to blast through ... and then he saw me! Cyclists around here, in general, have no regard for the rules of the road whatsoever. Bicycle couriers are the worst offenders. Blasting down the sidewalk, going the wrong direction on a one-way street, ... geeesh... don't get me started! LOL

Around here they DEMAND that they be allowed a full traffic lane when you are coming up on them, but then will break every law that is not convenient. The law here says that they must remain within 3 feet of the curb or edge of the roadway unless passing an obstruction and a group must ride single file and must not impede traffic. That is sure a lot different that always having the right of way. Had the discussion with an avid bicyclist here at work, he pics and chooses the laws that he likes. The thought never even occurred to him that running a stop in front of my truck could make him into a road pizza. He just believed that bicycles are the same as pedestrians and have the right of way and if you hit him he will sue. It finally registered after being repeated a bunch of times that it is hard to sue and/or enjoy the money of a successful lawsuit from 6 feet under or a wheel chair. Seeee, now ya went and got me started.................
Guest Jamsie Posted August 9, 2016 #10 Posted August 9, 2016 there was a spate of accidents , mainly in london a couple of years ago, cyclist were riding up the inside at trafic lights and getting squashed by wagons turning , who couldnt see they cyclists in their blind spot . now they have warnings telling cyclists not to pass on the inside and london has banned wagons that dont have extra mirrors to see all if cyclists are there . In holland , cyclists have right of way and automaticly if hit by a car get hospital bills paid by the car driver, unless the car driver can prove the cyclist was at fault . having worked in holland i think they think they are immortal because the law is on their side . but having the that doesnt stop them from putting themselves in dangerous situations. Mopeds are allowed to use cycle lanes. 1 morning i was sitting at the lights in the right hand lane , as they turned green and the car beside me pulled away a fraction of a second , he was hit by a moped rider going flat out through a red light at the crossing, coming from the left , flying over the hood of the car and just missing mine
Sailor Posted August 10, 2016 #11 Posted August 10, 2016 Gosh! don't you guys know that cyclists are going to save the planet. That obviously gives them the right to completely ignore all traffic laws as they are above all that nonsense. I have watched cyclists blow through red lights and stop signs, ride the wrong way down one way streets, ride 3-4 abreast, ride down sidewalks using pedestrians as slalom markers, etc. They refuse to wear helmets as required by law. They never get ticketed or stopped. If you want to be impervious to the law, ride a bike. Once or twice a year a cyclist is injured. That is a miracle considering the way they ride. Around here a motorcyclist is killed nearly every month. The injured cyclist gets huge play in the media and the car driver is blamed regardless of what actually happened. The motorcyclist gets a small mention and is usually blamed regardless of what actually happened.

Maybe you would get Trump to ad that to his platform. He doesn't believe in being politically correct and I like that about him.
