Old Buck Posted August 9, 2016 #1 Posted August 9, 2016 One more question. For those that know the sound of a whining timing belt on a gold wing I get the same sound on my 84 Venture from the time I start it till I shut it off, clutch in or out, idling on the kick stand or doing highway speed. Bike has only 31,000km Any thoughts? Thanks Old Buck
Black wing Posted August 12, 2016 #2 Posted August 12, 2016 mine did the same thing a while back, was a bad water pump. the sound will be loudest at the front right side of the engine where the little elbow to the thermostat is.
Old Buck Posted August 14, 2016 Author #3 Posted August 14, 2016 Thanks Black Wing, I do believe the sound is coming from the front right. Im gonna confirm that. The higher the revs the louder the whine. Is the water pump a whole asembly? Thanks Old Buck
Black wing Posted August 14, 2016 #4 Posted August 14, 2016 the pump is serviceable, there are two seals and a bearing in it that you should be able to pick up from yamaha. you get that timing belt sound from the bearing letting go and the shaft getting pressed into rubber seal. you can inspect it pretty easy. get a new o-ring for the outside cover and pop it off and look for any scoring on the face of the housing behind the wheel, and push on the sides of the impeller to see if it moves more than a couple mm in either direction
Old Buck Posted August 16, 2016 Author #5 Posted August 16, 2016 And now the next problem.. local dealer says parts or new pump discontinued by Yamaha. New pump part # 26H-1240-01-00. Now the hunt begins. Old Buck
Flyinfool Posted August 16, 2016 #6 Posted August 16, 2016 Is your old pump impeller plastic? There IS a new metal one that is what you want to put in there. I think you are missing a digit in the part number you posted.
MiCarl Posted August 16, 2016 #7 Posted August 16, 2016 The part number you have is for the whole pump. You only need the service parts which are still available. 99009-10400-00, 93306-00004-00, 93101-10090-00, 11H-12438-00-00, 93211-16591-00, 26H-12449-00-00 and 2 of 93210-27194-00. If the impeller shaft is damaged you'll also need an impeller: 1FK-12450-00-00
Old Buck Posted August 16, 2016 Author #8 Posted August 16, 2016 Yup the part number starts with 26H I havent opened it up yet till i knew i could get the parts. It only has 31k on it so im asuming it will have the plastic impeller. Thanks for the part numbers that makes life easier. Old Buck
