Old Buck Posted August 8, 2016 #1 Posted August 8, 2016 The question of the day.. On my 84 Venture the fuel Guage works great when the tank is full. When I get maybe 50 miles on it and head up a hill the sensor goes wonky and the fuel Guage goes to empty and the red light does its thing. Only when I fill up again does it seem to work properly again. Any thoughts? Thanks Old Buck
snyper316 Posted August 8, 2016 #2 Posted August 8, 2016 Freebird has a post on this it has to do with pulling the sending unit out of tank and something about it like warping and i guess you bend it back into place mine i can go about that then it says i got two bars till i get to half a tank then i go another 20 miles and it says im empty then back to 2-3 bars its a goofy thing so i just try to watch my mileage but every claims to get 40 miles to a gallon the best i have ever done is 31 most the time i get 20-25 which i know isnt right.... but i would do a search on fuel gage or sending unit..
gaj1917 Posted August 8, 2016 #3 Posted August 8, 2016 Fuel float/sender assemblies often go wonky. I haven't read Freebird's post, but you can pick up a used, working unit on eBay for a reasonable price. That's what I did, a long time ago.
bongobobny Posted August 9, 2016 #4 Posted August 9, 2016 Yup!! The resistive winding tends to warp a lot!
