Mic-Mutes Install today...maybe

Recommended Posts

I bought a MicMutes from another member here and it arrived this week. So now all I have to do is install it. I tell you, I've about reached the point where I don't like taking bikes apart. :( I loved the MicMutes on the '99 and certainly want it on the '05 but thinking about splitting the fairing, removing the seat and gas tank, routing the wires, etc. does not sound like a fun way to spend a couple of hours. I may bite the bullet and get it done today but I'm sure not looking forward to it. I can remember a time when none of this bothered me at all. I wouldn't even think twice about jumping on a project like this. It's not even that big a deal, just a pain in the butt.

Don't think your feelings have anything to do with age, because I have the same feelings. It must be the weather, or maybe the government. Maybe you should wait a bit and see if the ruling gurus change in your favor, they didn't in mine, but you have a better chance, so maybe you'll feel better tomorrow.

Are we turning into Grumpy Old men???

No! We are not grumpy old men! Why, I got a notion to to just bust something now! Talking about being grumpy old men just makes me mad! Think I will go sit on the porch and yell at cars going too fast or dogs and kids in the yard or something. Grumpy old men, phooey! :rotfl:

You are right about that. I guess it's just human nature. I just seem to dislike it more than I once did. Eileen told me to just wait and do it when I was in the mood but I knew that wasn't going to be anytime soon so I just got on it and got it done.

It is some sound deadening material like is used is some large speakers or something I guess. It was there when I bought the bike. Don't know if it helps anything or not. We always use earbuds. I assume it was installed in an effort to get better sound from those little speakers. It also has J&M Speakers in it. When I rode the bike home after purchasing it, I didn't have my headset with me so used the speakers on the way home. I didn't feel that there was any major improvements over stock.

It's been said that we start out as child and end up as a child. First we get looked after by our parents and then we get looked after by our kids. Early in life we get driven everywhere and the later in life we get driven everywhere again. Somewhere in the middle of all that we get to do it for ourselves for a time.

So I got a suggestion for ya Don. Next time you tear into that scooter, get yourself a cardboard box to put all the screws into. When your done taking it apart throw the box away. Then go to Walmart and get some velcro to put it back together, that way it won't take so long to do the next job. So you start life using velcro,, need I say more?

I know down here for me its been the heat. If you have not got outside stuff done by about 11-12 you are soooo hot. Even @ 9 am I walk out in garage and look at what I want to do and 5 minutes later sweat is running down your back. Its the start it up part thats hard. Once I'm out there and hot who cares.

I've had my Mic Mute for over a year now. Still haven't installed it. Since I still have 2 boxes of stuff to be installed on the trike, I think I will wait until winter and then I can get everything on while it's taken apart.

Hopefully no one will post pictures or info about something newer or cooler than what I already have..... I hate when that happens.

I installed my Mic-Mute on Friday. Can't get it to work. When I first tested it, I was holding the PTT button... then I realized I just use that to "toggle" on/off. So, tried that and and still nothing. Everything is connected correctly. Any guestimates on what to check? Thanks

If you are SURE everything is connected properly, there isn't much to check. Now when you say you toggle it, are you doing it pretty quickly? You only momentarily key the switch, like a second or so. Just push and release.

yes to toggle, I have tried everything from about half a second to 3 seconds...got nothing.

If I have time today, I'm going to try to remove the cover for the fuse box on lower right fairing. I connected to the Aux power supply so will see if there is actually a fuse in place.

If that doesn't work, I'll probably just remove the Mic-Mute and go back to the hot mic setup.

One more thing. If I remember correctly, if you have the intercom turned up, you can hear a little beep through your headsets when you toggle it.

IC was cranked to 20, the max it would go. not even a beep.

For some reason I think it may be the fuse for the Aux power supply. I hope to get that checked out soon. Weather here as sucked and I don't have a garage and don't won't to expose electrical to the elements if I don't have to.

When I take the seats back off, I'm going to check again just to make sure the connectors are crimped tight.

thanks for the info
