Doug royal86 Posted July 28, 2016 #1 Posted July 28, 2016 (edited) I have a 3 position yacht club motorcycle trailer. Some of the paint is coming off but new wires do to mice. It is rated at 1350 lds.. My bike will be real close to being too long that and to scared to put it on. What would be a good price to put on it. Edited July 28, 2016 by Doug royal86
Condor Posted July 28, 2016 #2 Posted July 28, 2016 Depends on the market. A family dirtbiker might pony up $1000 - $1200 for it. You couldn't get me to put a Venture on it. 1st or 2ndGen.... Most of this type of a trailer are built for shorter bikes, and are basically useless to be used for anything else... The greatest set up ever, is a 5x10 landscape trailer with the side walls and ramp gate and a Harbor Freight ride on chock... It'll do double duty taking the trash to the dump, triple duty loaning it to the kids so they can move, or 4th.... taking the rafts to the river so they can keep cool..... Probably a few more I haven't thought of. Oh yeah... make it a 6x10 if you have a trike.... Ka-ching 2¢
rickardracing Posted July 28, 2016 #3 Posted July 28, 2016 You have to watch how long the ramp is on cargo/landscape trailers. Too short of a ramp and you bottom out the bike at the hinge. I am going to be buying an Aluma trailer actually made for a motorcycle. Looking at getting the one made for a trike. $2700 with a 5 year warranty. No fuss...no muss.....no modifications required.
BratmanXj Posted July 28, 2016 #4 Posted July 28, 2016 Chicago area they go around $800-$1000 listed on CL, but as stated really made for lightweight or dirt bikes. My 6.5x10 basic cargo trailer was purchased for $1080 and does ALL the hauling duties Condor hit on.

Yeh i been keeping an eye on UHAUL for a trailer specifically there 5x10 with the sides i have used one several times and once for my venture and the ramp it has is perfect for pushing the beast up on....

Yeh mainly for dirt bikes and i think you can put a quad on here... but i cant speak for your neck of the woods but here around 500-700 we have a city yard sale here thats the best time to sell things because its the largest in Missouri and ppl from as far as texas comes to the yard sale to get bargains... and it would probably bring you about a grand then... but if its locals they well not trying to be too mean because i know there is a couple members around my area and they probably know this feeling when they try to sell something people here expect a whole lot of something for nothing and want to give you a whole lot of nothing for something if you get what i mean.....

I know what you mean, and you're absolutely right. Lemme tell you about my 8x16 Wells Cargo enclosed tandem with leaf springs. You need a damn step ladder to get in the side door, and loading when it's level you're gonna drag.... but I can't remember ever seeing a gated 5x10 that doesn't have at least a 5' gate, and that gives plenty of angle to clear the hinge with a bike that has a 8' wheel base. My trailer has leaf springs and it would be even less of an angle if it were made with a torsion axle. When loading I just ride it on and into the chock.... Unloading is a little tricky. Since the weight shifts to the back wheel, and you need both feet on the ground to balance, you'll slide about 5 feet when the front wheel hits the gate because traction is gone. So... the bike needs to be running and in first gear. Feather the clutch lever as the brake. Keeps everything under controll and you will avoid those OMG moments. Sorry for this... I wander a lot when typing...
Carbon_One Posted July 29, 2016 #8 Posted July 29, 2016 Heads up for anyone planning on getting a landscape type trailer (or any other type trailer for that matter) for a Hannigan trike. I had a 6 x10 for the Tri-Wing trike but had to replace it with a 6 x 12 when I got the Hannigan trike. Larry

I contacted the sales department for U-Haul years ago and inquired about buying one of their old trailers. I was told that they sell their trucks but not the trailers. He didn't really have an explanation but I'm guessing it has to do with liability.
snyper316 Posted July 30, 2016 #11 Posted July 30, 2016 Humm I've seen ppl with them but the no longer had U-Haul on them but I do wonder it's only been the low deck tandem and the 5x10 Sent from my Z812 using Tapatalk
Flyinfool Posted July 30, 2016 #12 Posted July 30, 2016 There is really not much to wear out on a trailer. It is a lot cheaper for them to occasionally toss in a set of wheel bearings and new tires than to replace the whole trailer. Not much else to wear out. Not like a truck where the engine and drive line and lots of moving parts, have a finite life and then it gets real expensive to rebuild. A maintained trailer will last almost forever. My guess would be that most of their trailers get replaced from crash damage.
gaj1917 Posted July 30, 2016 #13 Posted July 30, 2016 I bought this trailer a couple of years ago. I use it mostly for transporting unlicensed 650s, but had occasion to haul a friends Venture that broke down. Was able to drive the bike up and on. The trailer is rated for 750 lbs, so wouldn't want to lug a Venture too far.

Pretty nice one in the Michigan Auto Trader - thinking it has a little more load capacity - thinking the guy is asking 7 for it - sometimes I think to much I think:big-grin-emoticon: No idea if he got any bites on it cause I aint he - just thought I would pass on the info..
Doug royal86 Posted July 31, 2016 Author #15 Posted July 31, 2016 I put $500 on it.Did have a few scammers text me so far. Thanks for all the input. I wish i worked back at the shop I would lower it and just make it a one postion.
Flyinfool Posted July 31, 2016 #16 Posted July 31, 2016 I always but a line in my adds "Scamers don't bother, I know all your games" and I rarely ever get emails or phone calls from the scammers anymore. Your $500 is right in the wheel house of where they like to work.
