Finished installing the Auxiliary Driving lights this morning - Started last night. Long job for a shade-tree mechanic, but it's done, they work, and having cut the lawns today, I'm ready for a ride after dark to check'em out.

Changed front plugs, found oil above carbs. Posted a question in the 2nd gen section.

Checked air filters and blew out with air.

Next is fuel filter, need to look it up in tech section 😎

You might want to consider relocating the filter. It's buried, is a PITA to get to, and as long as your in there you might as well make it easier to get to it the next time. I relocated the filter on the '99 up under the saddle...

Well I finally got out for a ride today. The wife and I joined a friend and his wife and did a 100 mile loop with a lunch stop at the Top of the Mountain. This place has been in business since 1920. The food was great. :thumbsup2:

took it out for a ride (overnighter) yesterday and today, with the new riders backrest fitted on Friday.

First 'proper ride' on it since the off on the Roady in Feb.

Been ridding every day rain or shine so FINALLY got to do a good bike wash yesterday.

Also NEW concrete lane way helps with getting in and out of garage and also washing without finding a flat spot to park.

My son and I finally put on some 2" risers yesterday. Working on the adjustments yesterday too. Because I am shorter getting the offset to the back was a little interesting with the gas cover. Having that flip backwards has always been the only thing I've had issues with. As long as the bars are square I can open and close the cover other than that the bars don't interfere with it. It can be done by yourself but much easier with a second person.

It's a great addition in my opinion. I have no problem opening my gas cap with the bars at full lock either direction. I guess it depends upon how you need them adjusted. At any rate, it made my '18 very comfortable.

My issue wasn't so much height as I needed a slight height and to reduce the reach a little. I can open the gas cap itself without issue and move the bars fully in either direction after the flip lid is opened. I'll probably be tweeking it for a while. I ride every day to work so any adjustments are normally on the weekends.

Last night I replaced my carb diaphragm on 86 Venture, button it up for the test ride later todayff6f62b7171b5a2df255c557fc8f5bd7.jpg1d2b4b513cad5a892cacf414e8813535.jpg

Changed the RSV oil and filter. The level had been above the sight glass before. The owners manual specs 3.91 qts with filter change. I put 3.5 qts in it and ran it for a few minutes before checking it. The level is over the halfway mark close to the top of the sight glass. So, it would appear to me that maybe 3.3 qts will be enough. The PO left the last oil change receipt in the trunk and they charged him for 4 qts, so maybe that is what they put in it. The bike is sitting on one of CarbonOne's adapters with legs so it's level. Are you guys with RSVs finding the same amount of oil getting to the middle or top of the sight glass?

Tip and I rode Tweeksis 2 miles down a very loose sand two track (the trail was freshly groomed for the upcoming snowmobile season) to get back to an abandoned blue berry patch to pick blue berries to send my fruitfly daughter who lives in California. Tweeksis's excellent throttle response keeping the front end light like a dirt bike kept us from going down numerous times.. What an amazing motorcycle these old Ventures are brothers and sisters.. Get out and ride!

Yup.

I run a car filter that is a little larger so I add just a tad more oil.

Be sure to check it when you get it back on the ground again.

I don’t worry about measuring it. I buy it by the gallon and will add about 3 quarts, start it up and run for a few seconds, then slowly add more to about 1/3 up from the bottom of sight glass. I will recheck it after sitting overnight after the next ride to be sure it is still the same. I keep it below 1/2 on the sight glass.

i never fill it on the jack or stand. On the wheels with a block of wood under the side stand adjusted to the proper thickness to hold bike almost level. I want it to lean very slightly to the left to make sure there is weight on the side stand to keep it from wanting to tip over to the right.

The fuel valve was left in the Reserve position but I'm confident that there is no gas in the oil. It may be my imagination but the clutch whine may be less with the new oil which was Mobil 1 syn 10W40 motorcycle oil. The previous oil was regular 10W40 Yamalube.

Rode around town about 20 miles today running errands on the 07 RSV. Riding in city traffic on a 90 degree day, that thing was really hot on my bare legs. Come to think of it, I don't remember hearing the cooling fan come on? But, there wasn't any cooling system boilover and the coolant is at the proper level. I wish it had a temp gauge. Got to verify the fan is working or repair it.

Wash-n-polished Artemis this morning. Arrived back home last night after a three day, 800 mile loop: Vt, NH, ME, NH, VT. Great first road-trip on the SVTC with my passenger of 35 years! The bike was awesome! But I'll admit that I was sitting on a gel pad that has ridden on the back seat of the R*, and also the sheepskin that I have has since the RSTD. For the very first time, (or since the '93 FJ,?) we were stopping because I needed the break! Tho I have not had success with uploading destinations to the Nav, it otherwise worked great; the "scenic" option knows you don't want the interstate! Great ride - the only negative is that Conway, NH seriously needs a "bypass"...that was the only time I heard, "My left foot is getting hot..." I felt it too. The change in Conway since I first ran through there in the late 70's is just wild...I can't believe the city folk who come to the White Mountains to....hangout in a "town" that is completely congested for most of the day. We averaged 41mph and 47mpg over the 800.3 miles. Rockwood, and Jackman, ME were the far points from home - second Nav issue: the map page indicated I was crossing into Canada for minute. I knew I wasn't, so it was funny...but I also did not have my passport, so I did do a double take... I should have stopped for a screen shot, but I'm too old to think about those kind of things... ;-)

That sounds like a GREAT ride. We have ridden in the White Mountains one time and absolutely loved it. Stumbled upon a B&B somewhere in Vermont that just happened to have a cancellation. Really nice little place called the Round Barn B&B or something like that.

I do miss riding in New England. I do NOT miss Rt 16 and the Conway area. I agree, they do need a serious way to by-pass that whole area....a loop for rt 16 so I can head for the Rangley Lakes without spending an hour in one little town.

This morning I got up early, backed both Ventures out of garage and let them run. I've been to busy with life...to ride. Soon....I'll be back....I hope!
