Davin Posted September 23, 2017 #376 Posted September 23, 2017 Greased up my rear drive bits. Found the lack of grease I have read about. Had a Pirelli Route 66 spooned onto the rear wheel to replace that cracked D404. The Pirelli feels good so far. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
Davin Posted September 23, 2017 #377 Posted September 23, 2017 Next project was to fit a set of Kuryakyn ISO grips. Simple enough. Hmm now the bike won't start. Acts like the kill switch is engaged. Ni cranking. Headlight, radio etc. All work. Thinking maybe my kill switch is kaput. I bypassed it and still nothing. Pulled the throttle side switch block apart several times thinking I pinched a wire or something. Still no go. Checked all fuses. All good still no go. Everything seems fine just nothing when I hit the starter button. No trouble until I changed these hand grips. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk
sleepy2 Posted September 23, 2017 #378 Posted September 23, 2017 Charge the battery and have it retested to see if it is still good. Lead acid batteries do not like sitting in a discharged condition, that can kill even a brand new battery. Get your voltmeter and check the voltage across the battery with the engine running at over 2000 RPM, if the voltage is real close to 14V that the charging system is fine. If it is low or hi then further investigation is warranted. Battery charged up in around 2 hrs at 2amp. Took off and checked at 12:54 volts. Checked spare battery I put in and revved bike up to what sounded about that rpm and stayed around 13:75volts. Think this OK or should I investigate further?
Great adVENTURE Posted March 3, 2018 #379 Posted March 3, 2018 Scotch padded and painted the lower wind deflectors a nice gloss black to match the bike today.
Mover Posted March 3, 2018 #380 Posted March 3, 2018 Took my 7 year old battery and had it checked. All good! Sent from my SM-T350 using Tapatalk
slowrollwv Posted March 3, 2018 #381 Posted March 3, 2018 I went for a nice ride yesterday on the 03 RSV and then parked the 14 V star 1300 beside it in the new garage we put in last summer.
Karaboo Posted March 17, 2018 #382 Posted March 17, 2018 I installed my new SCI diaphragms today. They fit like a glove and were pretty easy to install. Warm enough here to run it up to temp and go vroom, vroom. I saw a few bikes go by, but there is still salt and sand on the roads, so I can wait.
leroy Posted March 18, 2018 #383 Posted March 18, 2018 Reinstalled side cases after having top racks installed. Made more progress on installing my auxiliary fuel tank. Still have a lot of farkles to install.
leroy Posted March 19, 2018 #384 Posted March 19, 2018 (edited) Auxiliary tank is mounted now just to run the fuel lines and test. I sure took some improvising and several trips to Lowes and Ace. 03/192018: Fuel lines ran seem to work Ok until I found a fuel leak. It was coming from the fuel filter. I tightened it but still leaked. New filter but the seal must have been bad. I ordered another one. This one will be a Russell like I ran on my VTX. The other was a knock off. Hopefully I'll be done with it this weekend. Edited March 22, 2018 by leroy
luvmy40 Posted March 23, 2018 #385 Posted March 23, 2018 Finally rewired the horns with a relay. Should have done that a long time ago.

Hopefully I'll be done with it this weekend. Got the new Russel fuel filter today and installed it today. No fuel leaks with a gallon in the auxiliary. I'll fill both tanks tomorrow, well my main is almost full, so I'll fill the auxiliary (about 5 gallons) then give it the highway test to be sure fuel flows OK and all is tight. Now to finish my other farkles.
VentureFar Posted March 24, 2018 #387 Posted March 24, 2018 Changed the clutch spring on my 2007 RSV. Very proud of myself. It works after I finished ! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Davin Posted March 24, 2018 #388 Posted March 24, 2018 I have my reshaped and recovered in leather seats rode in now. Very pleased with the comfort. Went for an OEM style. Thinking of being more daring with my 99RSTD Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk

sleepy2 Posted March 31, 2018 #390 Posted March 31, 2018 Got around to change anti-freeze as dealer never changed it over the last 5 years of service done on bike.(found out after looking at receipts of work done) Had to buy new plugs behind fake cylinder covers after 2 started leaking after the change which meant taking tank and lower fairing off to get access to drain fluid. Took it out today for test ride and everything seems OK. Pretty chilly out (-1- -5) New grips MarCarl helped with seem to help with hand gripping.
Karaboo Posted April 1, 2018 #391 Posted April 1, 2018 I installed my new Hella dual tone horns today. They are a high/low tone in the stock horn size. This means my chrome covers still fit in the stock location with the stock chrome brackets. They sure don't sound stock, though. A little bit louder, but a lot more attention grabbing, with the high/low sounds. It sure would be nice if I never had to use them, but we know better.

videoarizona Posted April 2, 2018 #393 Posted April 2, 2018 Finally got around to putting highway pegs on RSV. Snugged them down good. Didn't use locktite and am wondering if I should. Still haven't installed the braces for the engine guards though. And still looking for a place to mount 2 spot lights for driving lights....wonder if I can find room down on the guards!!
snyper316 Posted April 2, 2018 #394 Posted April 2, 2018 Well I've spent the last 3 hours out in the garage reassembling tinker. So basically I've been out here tinkering around not really in any hurry it's 32 degrees outside with iced up steps and porch I thought it was spring. Never ride faster then your angel can fly. I am as free as the wind on my face.
RDawson Posted April 2, 2018 #395 Posted April 2, 2018 Last few days I got the Amplirider, mic mutes, and the Skydoc clutch installed. Spooned on a new rear tire, checked all fluids and today got the luggage packed. Tomorrow me and momma are gonna head out for five days of CTFW. If you see a blue (best color) RSV loaded down and 2 up running around KY, NC, and Tenn give a big wave.
leroy Posted April 2, 2018 #396 Posted April 2, 2018 OK...I've been looking but can't find pics of your aux fuel tank. I'm curious..... Didn't post any as I have not taken any pics yet. I've been busy adding and redoing some other farkles, lights mainly. I'll try to update with pics later this week. I mounted the tank in place of the passenger seat. I had to make a plate to mount it on. Bad part is I must take it off when my daughter rides with me. It doesn't take much time with the quick disconnects. One bolt and two screws, disconnect the fuel line, and figure where I will store the tank. Then put the passenger seat back on. I don't need the extra tank with her as we have to stop so often 100 to 150 miles is her limit anyway. However, I am working on some ideas to use it with her riding just in case we do the 4 Corners in 21 days ride or if we go very far out into "Nowhere Land", aka, few fuel stops. I'll probably mount it on some sort of rack like the Pakit Rak then use a fuel pump to move the fuel from the lower tank to either the main or directly to the stock fuel lines. That is in the future if I decide to do it.

I'm toying with the idea of doing a long distance ride this summer. The wifemate has given the go ahead knowing this may be my last chance as age is creeping up! I rode across country in the younger days and on a smaller bike...but...grins! So I bow to your superior knowledge of LD riding! Congrats on all your Iron Butt's! I was thinking of carrying a small gas can in one of the saddlebags. But most of my riding would be near or on major highways so gas shouldn't be a problem. Even in the Four Corners area, there's gas nearby if you plan your stops. I was concerned about going across the New Mexico desert on rt 70, but have found enough stops to make it without a problem...and that's assuming around 35mpg's with reserve (keeping the scoot under the sound barrier as well!). Take the opportunity to head out on the highway. You meet the nicest people while riding a motorcycle. I think my Wife likes when I leave but then when I get back she is so glad to see me. We get a long very well but she likes her alone time and I like to ride. Part of being too old to ride is in your head. My uncle is 84 still riding and teaching MC safety. A friend of the family stopped at 90. I met a guy over 90, still riding long distances, and passed his flight exam. I don't believe I'd fly with him. I'm 69 and started back to riding at age 59 after 26 years without a motorcycle. In the past ten years I have put over 130,000 miles on my VTX and 20,000 on my RSV. That is while missing a total of about 1.5 years being laid up with various surgeries. Only one was almost serious. I already have a plan if I don't feel comfortable on two wheels. That is either a sidecar or Can Am. If that doesn't work I'll take to the road in my new pickup. I like to travel. Thanks for the compliment. Not a big deal on the IBAs as I have yet to do a Bun Burner Gold (1500 in 24 hrs). That one I am told is a real challenge. I had always been a "road warrior" on 4 wheels, a thousand miles here or there in a day. So it transferred to two wheels. I love touring and smelling the flowers but at times I just need or want to get somewhere then smell the flowers. Other times I like the challenge. You should be OK on fuel. Many places may be few and far between in parts of the country. You should be able to count on 150 miles before reserve under the worst conditions. I did get a bit nervious in Wyoming. I guess we were climbing plus the wind; I hit reserve at 150 and the towns that should have had fuel did not. Just don't push the limits unless you know where fuel is. I always check the internet ahead and then have a back up plan. It might not hurt to carry one or two of those MSR canisters with fuel. Of course they take up space. I have done it but never needed it even on my VTX with a 135 mile range before reserve running an honest 75 - 80. The 4 Corners Ride I mentioned is a ride sponsored by Southern California Motorcycle Association. The four extreme corners of the lower 48 in 21 days. That's about 500 miles per day. There is not a lot out in the Four Corners area of New Mexico, Utah, and Arizona but there is fuel in Ship Rock. Colorado has Durango. Have a great trip. If you are through the Dallas area let me know. Edited April 3, 2018 by leroy
snyper316 Posted April 2, 2018 #399 Posted April 2, 2018 @leroy bun burner? 500 miles in 24 hrs? I have done that twice... But does it have to be done at certain place? Never ride faster then your angel can fly. I am as free as the wind on my face.

I too love to travel and have over 200K on my Yukon XL crossing the country multiple times, visiting friends and enjoying the food and flavor of America. I'm concerned about my butt ! The Yukon is comfy...the RSV is comfy but not sure I can take the heat of summer all day long. After 40 plus years in Arizona, I would think heat would not be an issue for me, but the older I get the more it bothers me... Four Corners Ride...now that would be a challenge, for sure! Thanks for the encouragement...
