RDawson Posted May 2, 2019 #751 Posted May 2, 2019 Yep, the design is bad but I bought a new 2000 f150 with the 5.4L engine and put 105k miles on it with no issues. My friend who bought it ran it up to 170k miles with no issues. My current 2002 f150 5.4 has 154k miles on it with no blown out plugs so far. Probably will blow one tomorrow since I said that . This one lasted over a million miles! http://www.millionmilevan.com/ Ain't no perfect vehicles out there. The guy who makes the South Main Auto Repair videos says Chevys and Dodges pays his mortgage and for his kids college funds. My stable has a good mix, the business has the F250 and a Z71, I have another Z71, wife's Jeep Cherokee, daughters have a Nissan Sentra, and a Dodge Avenger. It's the second F250, is used the least, and costs the most to keep on the road. I do have to say the 1st 2000 F250 had plugs changed at a fairly low mileage and never spit one. That #%\ concrete truck that rear ended me didn't do it any good though.

That #%\ concrete truck that rear ended me didn't do it any good though. I don't have any real preferences any more. I have a 14 yr old Dodge Magnum and 17 yr old F150. I bought a 2013 Infiniti for my wife. Prior to that I bought a Mitsubishi and a Mazda for her. I bought a Chevy Cavalier, Buick skyhawk, Pontiac sunbird, and a Ford Contour for my daughter, a Ford Escort and a Mustang for my son, and a Focus, Miata, Mustang and another Miata for my Stepson. If I bought a new truck it would probably be a RAM or a Toyota. New car might be a Dodge Charger or Chrysler 300. I loved my hot rod chevys in my youth but soured on them due to lots of repairs.
Newbeme Posted May 4, 2019 #753 Posted May 4, 2019 I made a DIY carb synchronizer and tried to sync the bike and had nothing but issues due to the hardware store not having the correct size T fittings. Long story short I sync'ed by ear and feel and it seems a lot smoother. Now to get a good synchronizer. I also cut off the heel shifter. I have never been able to get used to using one.
s.tyler58 Posted May 4, 2019 #754 Posted May 4, 2019 (edited) I pick up Venture this morning before my shop mechanic heads off to have a free drink on Warren Buffett at the Berkshire Hathaway shareholders meeting tonight. I thought I was helping to feed his family, turns out he was getting rich! We have most of the richest people in the world in town this weekend. Anyway, the new back tire is on and the kickstand is fixed so now I've still got to deal with some leaking Forks but I only have 5 weight oil in there I'm hoping changing that to 10 and running a piece of film down inside will clean up the seal. Also right now I'm only getting 3 cylinders firing at idle but the number 4 (It's early and I can't remember right now, is it 3 or 4 that's the right side foward cylinder?)starts firing above idle and runs okay so the mechanic says run a tank of seafoam through and see what happens Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk Edited May 4, 2019 by s.tyler58
BlueSky Posted May 7, 2019 #755 Posted May 7, 2019 I didn’t do anything to my bike but I bought a jack and jack adapter from Sylvester today. So now I’ll be able to jack up the RSV to replace the tires. Really enjoyed meeting Jim, a super nice guy. He has a really nice RSV for sale if anyone is in the market! Semi-retired Posted May 7, 2019 #756 Posted May 7, 2019 I did today what I have been dreading. I canceled my insurance and turned in the tags. I can not ride with my shoulder messed up. :-(
Newbeme Posted May 12, 2019 #757 Posted May 12, 2019 My Morgan Carbtune I ordered showed up this past week and I got the carbs synced this morning while the wife slept in. In the past I have had mercury filled sync tools, diy sync tool, and now the Morgan. I like the Morgan by far and it is definitely worth the money. I will offer up that if anyone is on the Gulf Coast near Mississippi and would like to stop by and use it, hit me up.
Sylvester Posted May 12, 2019 #758 Posted May 12, 2019 Since Newbeme opened the door, I want to say that I will loan my Carbtune to any registered member. I will send it to the member at my cost and he returns at his cost. I expect it to be used relatively soon after sending so it is available for other members. Of course I expect all the components to be returned. Beat that deal! I do this because few use a Carbtune more than once every 1.5 years if that.
Red Ryder Posted May 17, 2019 #759 Posted May 17, 2019 Last night Installed 1 1/2" pullback risers and worked on a front blinker wiring issue. Hopfully ride today. Later-
Crazyman Posted May 17, 2019 #760 Posted May 17, 2019 What started out to be a experimental temporary trial fix wound up still in place and still working fine for the last couple days now... Cruse controll was acting like many have described on here, so l removed clutch lever and used thick 3M double face tape and a thin piece of metal cut to the size of the contact area on the flat surface of the lever that makes contact with the pin that actuates the switch and stuck it on there, this took up the space caused by ware in the lever. Cruse was been working like new ever since...Think l'm gonna leave it, just to see how long this experimental guick fix holds up.😉🏍

snyper316 Posted June 30, 2019 #763 Posted June 30, 2019 That's pretty cool. Yeah it is, I discovered it when people were trying to figure out something better to plan rides, I today after being in the sun Have Lobster Arms!!
videoarizona Posted July 1, 2019 #764 Posted July 1, 2019 What did I do with my Venture today? Got up at 5am, left Phoenix on the RSV at 5:45am and arrived in Green Valley at 8am after 1 stop. Was getting warm...but wonderful ride as there wasn't any traffic!!
jdbaker.vet Posted July 1, 2019 #765 Posted July 1, 2019 (Yesterday) Drove an hour and half to pick the ole' girl up. JYA1NL00XGA002474 1986 Royal Story behind the find: Son calls me up about three weeks ago, starts telling about this bike. He explains one of his drivers has just dropped as he was just a little to short to handle the weight of the bike [seeing him yesterday it made sense, poor guy] Finally, I inquire. "Is this for you or me?" He goes, "Happy Father's Day." I'm floored. So, we drive up to Lincoln, Arkansas [Hour and half north through the mountains] get it into the trailer, not an easy task. {Did I mention it was a 100 yesterday, oh yeah, and the back tire was flat} But as you can see we got her home. Now the journey begins... See ya on the flip side.. (Also, I will be starting this as a new Post as well...)
slowrollwv Posted July 2, 2019 #767 Posted July 2, 2019 I moved it around in the garage to make room to park my Scag super z mower.
RDawson Posted July 3, 2019 #768 Posted July 3, 2019 Rode mine for the first time since getting home from MD. Had some surgery two days after we got back so today was the first time I felt like I could set the saddle. Felt good but only 25 miles.
Red Ryder Posted July 3, 2019 #769 Posted July 3, 2019 Painted rear passenger floorboards yesturday. Maybe paint front floorboards today. Later-
Uturn 780 Posted July 3, 2019 #770 Posted July 3, 2019 Spark plugs. Changed the rear 2 yesterday without removing the tank. Disappointed that I couldn't get my spark plug socket to work, dug out the factory tool kit. Yammi spark plug tool, 17mm socket to go over end of factory tool, swivel and ratchet. Now if the front two were that easy. Looks like the tank is coming off to get these two. 09RSV
GreenMtnHunter Posted July 5, 2019 #771 Posted July 5, 2019 Took off the front panel, and seat; checked out the CB antenna connectors...no CB traffic yet, but I have not been in a populated area. Showed it off to some friends. Wowed them with the "Sure-Park, GPS, Stereo, etc. Checked out panels around the lower bars - highway pegs are on the list....
Statussymbol Posted July 7, 2019 #772 Posted July 7, 2019 In preparation for our trip. In the last week replaced plugs, synchronized carbs, new elite 4 rear tire and pads. Tuned up clutch with skydocs kit, put in bypass ignition relay switch, and topped off oil, checked final drive oil. Packing tomorrow, leaving crack of dawn Tuesday for the tail of the dragon. First overnight stop is probably effingham I'll. Hopefully the weather will hold and we can get some good pics for you all. Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
twigferd Posted July 11, 2019 #773 Posted July 11, 2019 Got up at 4am, showered and headed out for my 50 mile ride to work. Here in about 6 hours I plan to get "lost" and take the long way home just to extend the ride.
Serj Posted July 12, 2019 #774 Posted July 12, 2019 I started mine, ran a bottle of sea foam as recommended by some members, still sounds like a lawnmower, and after running for like an hour, I found a leak in the rear cilinderhead, still gotta pinpoint were, found some wires that I can figure out what they are for as well, last thing spend the afternoon reading about cleaning and sync carbs and all, ran to harbor freight bought a compression tester, as soon as a get home I see thousands of bad reviews of the tester so no compression test today
jdbaker.vet Posted July 12, 2019 #775 Posted July 12, 2019 Got the rear axle nut off. Now just have to get it out of the socket....
