Sailor Posted July 19, 2016 #1 Posted July 19, 2016 I just got a brand new MotoMaster bike jack at our Rod and Gun garage sale. The box had never been opened. Paid $25.00 for it. I am ready to use it but I thought I would check with the Gurus here as how best to position it under my 02 Venture.
Guest Jamsie Posted July 19, 2016 #2 Posted July 19, 2016 you will need an adapter which will prevent you from squashing your exhaust pipes. i think carbon one makes them
utadventure Posted July 19, 2016 #3 Posted July 19, 2016 I also understand you can use 4 hockey pucks to prevent damage when using a bike jack.....don't know if you can find any in Canada I have an adapter....they work great!!! Best option in my opinion. Dave
SilvrT Posted July 19, 2016 #4 Posted July 19, 2016 yup... carbon one's adapter with the legs is the way to go! Hockey pucks are good in a pinch. FWIW, '03 Wing, '05 Road Star, and '13 CCT require no adapter ....
Guest Jamsie Posted July 19, 2016 #5 Posted July 19, 2016 The reason you need to use something between the lift and the bike, is that the exhausts are lower than the frame . as the lift extends beyond the frame , without something between you would be lifting the bike with the exhausts and not the frame
vzuden Posted July 19, 2016 #7 Posted July 19, 2016 If using hockey pucks it helps to notch one slightly for the left front to avoid the side stand switch. Not mandatory - just helps a little

Sailor Posted July 20, 2016 Author #9 Posted July 20, 2016 Thanks guys. For now I think I will go with the 2x4 but look into the adapter. I have never used one of these before. How steady are they? I have a gravel driveway.
gggGary Posted July 20, 2016 #10 Posted July 20, 2016 "I have a gravel driveway." You need a good sized piece of heavy plywood or some such under the lift to stabilize it. If your gravel is loose I wouldn't use the lift on it at all. got the 99 on a larin lift for the steering bearing snug and front wheel work right now. no adapters, One bar is under the centerstand tabs the other on the floor board mounts, it's making me a bit nervous but I've dealt with worse.. The adapters are great idea, service.
Yammer Dan Posted July 20, 2016 #11 Posted July 20, 2016 Not on the gravel!!! Get something to give you a solid base. 900 lbs comes down QUICK!!!

Yammer Dan Posted July 20, 2016 #13 Posted July 20, 2016 Yeah a puc don't have apoint.........:innocent-emoticon:I hate this I Pad:smash2:
KeithR Posted July 20, 2016 #14 Posted July 20, 2016 Good deal.....Motomaster changed the arms on the newer model and they are a bit short. i have both and ended up taking the jack off the newer on and put it on the old model with the longer arms. The newer one has 11 inch arms. You can't go wrong with the adapter but it does need a stable base...maybe a couple of patio stones embedded in the gravel.
Pegasus1300 Posted July 20, 2016 #15 Posted July 20, 2016 If you are worried about the stability on the lift(providing the lift is on a solid surface) I just put a tie down over the bike from one side of the lift to the other. My lift has rings to run the tie down thru. Bike never moves after that.
