GaryZ Posted July 14, 2016 #1 Posted July 14, 2016 My '92 Venture Royale has chewed up the 320mm rear brake rotor. There are no used ones on ebay. Anyone have a good one they want to sell?
videoarizona Posted July 14, 2016 #2 Posted July 14, 2016 Pinwall doesn't have one? Give them a call... They may not have one listed. Got one for my RSV... Good shape.
GaryZ Posted July 14, 2016 Author #4 Posted July 14, 2016 The specs say the Gen 2 rear rotor is 320mm x 7mm vs my rotor at 320mm x 5mm. Anyone tried using the Royal Star Venture rear rotor on a Gen 1 MKII ???
bongobobny Posted July 14, 2016 #5 Posted July 14, 2016 Hmmm, 2 mm is a fair amount thicker, isn't it?!!? However, I'm pretty sure that the caliper used on the MK2 is the same caliper used on the 2nd gen...
GaryZ Posted July 15, 2016 Author #6 Posted July 15, 2016 I did a little more research and found the mounting bolts are spaced at 216mm on a Gen 2 vs 150mm on the MKII. . . No Joy
dna9656 Posted July 15, 2016 #7 Posted July 15, 2016 Check EBC's catalog, I'm sure there's one there for you $$$$
GaryZ Posted July 15, 2016 Author #8 Posted July 15, 2016 EBC wants over $200 for Venture brake rotors. I am skeptical of the EBC listing because they say all three rotors are the same . . . They are NOT BTW: I found a used rear brake rotor at a local motorcycle salvage for $50. Sometimes I get lucky!

I just changed mine and if I remember correctly 5mm is minimum thickness. BTW ended up getting one from EBC from ebay.

They are NOT BTW: I found a used rear brake rotor at a local motorcycle salvage for $50. Sometimes I get lucky! So has anyone contacted EBC and asked them about the discrepancy? Those catalogs are printed in the smallest font known to man and I bet they are not researched for every edition.
bongobobny Posted July 16, 2016 #11 Posted July 16, 2016 Dunno but about 8 years ago I bought EBC's all the way around and they fit fine! The fronts are the same, just matters which way you bolt them on...
cimmer Posted July 17, 2016 #12 Posted July 17, 2016 The EBC part number for the rear brake rotor is MD2049 for the 86-93 Ventures. I know they had different part numbers for the front ones in older catalogs. Hope this helps. Rick F.
GaryZ Posted July 17, 2016 Author #13 Posted July 17, 2016 (edited) Dunno but about 8 years ago I bought EBC's all the way around and they fit fine! The fronts are the same, just matters which way you bolt them on... The Gen 1 MKI ('83 - '85) has 298mm rotors on the front and rear. The Gen 1 MKII ('86 - '93) has a 320mm rotor on the rear and 282mm rotors on the front. Edited July 17, 2016 by GaryZ

Page 6-12 of my manual specifies the minimum as 4.5mm. i wouldn't worry about that too much, the .5mm limit is the same on the MKI and they had vented rotors, the solid rotors on the MKII are pretty well safe until the pads start wearing excessively
GaryZ Posted August 2, 2016 Author #16 Posted August 2, 2016 I picked up a used rotor at a shop in South Oklahoma City for $50. Sometimes you just get lucky . . .
