Freebird Posted July 14, 2016 #1 Posted July 14, 2016 (edited) So have any of you changed the mirrors on your RSV? I had Harley Davidson Split Vision mirrors on the Road Glide and liked them pretty well. The first set that I bought were defective though and some of the chrome started flaking of the right one. I replaced them but still had the old defective ones here in the garage so decided to see how they would work on the RSV. I like them. I had an old set of adapters here but they are black and I've ordered a set of chrome or stainless ones from KuryAkyn. I have them installed with the old adapters for now. The problem is, as you can see from the pictures, they have Harley Davidson stamped on the back side. So I am trying to find a set similar without the HD on them. I've found a couple of versions on Ebay but the reviews on them are not very good. There is a company V_Twin manufacturing that make some that look pretty much identical but without the stamping. After looking at the specs though, they appear to be considerably smaller. I don't want smaller. If you have swapped your mirrors, what did you go with? Edited July 14, 2016 by Freebird
Flyinfool Posted July 14, 2016 #2 Posted July 14, 2016 Since the Hardly logo is stamped in just fill it with some body filler and paint them black to match the adapters and the rest of the bike. It will also give you that much less chrome to polish every day.
bongobobny Posted July 14, 2016 #4 Posted July 14, 2016 Make up some stickers that say "Wannabe" and place under the Harley logo... Actually Don, the stock mirrors were one of the first to go when I bought the '09. Couldn't see crap out of 'em! My choice was some large sort of rounded out rectangles aftermarket mirrors off Fleabay for around $30 if I remember correctly. They aren't a huge fashion statement but not fugly either but the main part is I can see clearly now...
XV1100SE Posted July 14, 2016 #5 Posted July 14, 2016 I thought you were done with the additions and "final" pictures? :-p It's like saying you are going to quit smoking....easier said than done. I don't think the additions/changes ever end !
alwrmcusn Posted July 14, 2016 #6 Posted July 14, 2016 I may have the same mirrors bongobobny. They were pretty inexpensive, noticeably larger viewing area and have proven worth the money. Had them on my '09 trike for about 3 years.
cwhite123174 Posted July 14, 2016 #7 Posted July 14, 2016 I bought the Kuryakyn magnum mirrors and love them! Look great and are perfect in size for me. Convex style.
Freebird Posted July 14, 2016 Author #9 Posted July 14, 2016 HEY...this doesn't COUNT. I already had them.
XV1100SE Posted July 14, 2016 #10 Posted July 14, 2016 HEY...this doesn't COUNT. I already had them. Any physical changes to the bike, whether it is "on the shelf" in your garage, basement, or attic still count as changes....and NOT done !
XV1100SE Posted July 14, 2016 #12 Posted July 14, 2016 We were all thinking the same thing when you said you were done.
Condor Posted July 14, 2016 #13 Posted July 14, 2016 Since the Hardly logo is stamped in just fill it with some body filler and paint them black to match the adapters and the rest of the bike. It will also give you that much less chrome to polish every day. Paint CHROME? That's blasphemous. That was my thinking, and you don't have to paint the entire mirror, just the portion that sez Harley.... I think it would look cool... Maybe use the same stuff you painted the wind deflectors with?? The only problem I can see is how well the chrome surface will adhere to the Bondo and paint??
videoarizona Posted July 14, 2016 #14 Posted July 14, 2016 Agreed. Think it would look good to only fill in and paint the small oval with the HD logo. Same color as your deflectors.
Dragonslayer Posted July 14, 2016 #15 Posted July 14, 2016 Paint CHROME? That's blasphemous. Counting Cars tv show did that on a Cadilac rebuild by spraying black candy over chrome the result was a prety cool shiney black candy which looked great with the custom red paint job on the body.
Yammer Dan Posted July 14, 2016 #16 Posted July 14, 2016 MIRRORS??? If ya wanna see the 1st Gens look the other way. In Front of you!!! Yeah I know......
WildBill1 Posted July 14, 2016 #17 Posted July 14, 2016 It will slip thru the wind even faster with Harley mirrors installed.
eusa1 Posted July 14, 2016 #18 Posted July 14, 2016 A couple of them domed vr stickers might cover them ugly spots!
Freebird Posted July 14, 2016 Author #20 Posted July 14, 2016 Well....there is not reason to be mean about it.
jakester Posted July 14, 2016 #22 Posted July 14, 2016 I went to Walmart, rv section, they sell a plastic offset little round convex mirror with tape back to stick on the edge of your mirror. it rotates to adjust the angle you prefer. All for less than $5. It did eliminate the blind spots. Bill Ps I got the idea on this forum many years ago:)
ragtop69gs Posted July 14, 2016 #23 Posted July 14, 2016 When people ask, just tell them the HD stands for High Definition.
rbig1 Posted July 14, 2016 #24 Posted July 14, 2016 are you worried about Pokémon sneaking up on ya making ya stop to look.
Sylvester Posted July 14, 2016 #25 Posted July 14, 2016 I have had the Kuryakin clearance and turn flat mirrors for years abd all like them.
