Just did an oil change on the RSV. Put in fresh oil, ran if a few minutes to get oil into filter. Waited about 10 min and checked the oil level. It was just above the minimum line so I added a bit more. Went back about an hour later and the oil level is at the top of the window.

Any suggestions about getting some of the oil out without having to remove the plug (I just put a new compression washer)???

I may try to suction some out from going thru the top (fill hole)....

Wow a new compression washer. Must save that item. They are reusable you know if you don't have another one or they are too texpensive where you live. Crack the drain bolt let a little our and retighten. You'll never know the difference. Very important not to run with it over filled.

You could remove the filter and dump it out. Probably just about the right amount. Keep the level 1/2 way between the lines on the sight glass or you'll be seeing drips under the bike.

Yah!! Because oil is viscous it takes a loooong time to drain into the pan.. Best time to check the level is after the bike sets overnight...

As stated compression washers are NOT like crush washers, you use them over and over! Just unscrew the drain plug to let a little out, say a half pint, and get on with life!

Red Rider's suggestion will actually work, you won't kill your engine, but you sure will get a lot of oil all over the place, like in your airbox, down the drain hoses, etc... I don't advise it, I'm sure he was being facetious.

Wouldn't ya know it Dennis, changed MY oil yesterday and what did I do?? You guessed it! Ya jinxed me I say, ya jinxed me...

Damn, Sorry Bob!!

Well I got a small piece of tubing and I syphoned some oil out. All is fine now. I obviously didn't get all the old oil out because I could see the new oil setting on top of the darker oil thru the window. I will change oil again after the Ontario trip and before going to Maggie Valley.

When are you heading to Minden? Are you crossing at Niagra?

No, crossing at Fort Erie/Buffalo Wednesday night and am spending overnight with Wizard765 in Caledonia Ontario. We are departing there Thursday morning with them to take the scenic route up to Mindon avoiding all the cities on the way up there. Not sure how many will be in this group, but will see you in Mindon Thursday afternoon...
