Dragonslayer Posted July 5, 2016 #1 Posted July 5, 2016 June 11th at MD was the last time I smoked a cigarette. Right before I left I started feeling a little weird and the taste of a cigarette just didn't interest me any. The ride home was increasingly uncomfortable and when I got back I suffered through about a week of flu like symptoms. Following two Dr. visits, a round on antibiotics and some medication adjustments I feel fine now but smoking still does not interest me. I did take one drag off a cigarette a few days ago and was still disgusted by the taste. It's been close to a month now so I guess I will go ahead and quit for good.......... AGAIN
Freebird Posted July 5, 2016 #2 Posted July 5, 2016 Good for you. I know it's hard. I need to do the same thing but just haven't found the will power.
yamagrl Posted July 5, 2016 #4 Posted July 5, 2016 Excellent Bob! The big secret to remaining a non-smoker is to simply not light the next cigarette. Shhh.
djh3 Posted July 5, 2016 #5 Posted July 5, 2016 I had a similar way I quit. Was sick in bed 3 days with Flu. When I finally could get up and motivate around, I picked one up about to light up and said" Well its been 3 days wonder if I can go 4" Congrats your on your way.
Dragonslayer Posted July 5, 2016 Author #6 Posted July 5, 2016 Good for you. I know it's hard. I need to do the same thing but just haven't found the will power. Don, I wish I could take credit for a high degree of courage and intestinal fortitude to fight the good fight for the sake of the greater good of the populated world. But, truth be known, they just don't taste good anymore. I feel the same way about them now as I do about a $#!+ sandwich. I have no interest in putting one in my mouth.
Guest Jamsie Posted July 5, 2016 #7 Posted July 5, 2016 i quit smoking last month . i have Peripheral arterial disease and cannot walk very far without severe pains in my right leg , i also cannot sleep well at night as my foot goes to sleep.the blood test came out fine for any other cause except smoking , with e cigs its not all that hard to do. first day back from my holidays i am at hospital for more checks
BigLenny Posted July 5, 2016 #8 Posted July 5, 2016 Bob, I'm so happy to hear you quit smoking. The truth be told, it's a pretty nasty, disgusting habit isn't it. I'm glad you don't like the taste of them anymore. Now, don't let anybody or any situation convince you to go back to it. I was watching CBS Evening News last week, and they did a story on smoking, They showed a stat that only 18% of Americans are smoking anymore, and the heaviest use is primarily among (get this) the lower educated, lower income segment of America. Is that the segment you want to be compared to? Hang in there. You da man!
Yammer Dan Posted July 5, 2016 #9 Posted July 5, 2016 I got mad at them one morning took them out of my pocket and threw them away. Not saying I didn't want them but when I made up my mind it wasn't that hard. Story being I was a track star in high school. Did a mile in 4 min. 30 sec. in 1967. Could run forever!! Started smoking that summer because of the Idiots I was running with. Didn't make Track Team next year. 20 yrs later I was going squirell hunting and wanted to be on top of the ridge by daylight. Went down on my knees trying to go. While I was on my knees I took a cigarette out and stuck it in my mouth. Said to myself "That's what put you here you stupid S.O.B." Took them out and threw them away. DONE!!
Woody Posted July 5, 2016 #11 Posted July 5, 2016 Good for you and welcome to the non smoking section I quit 26 years ago and glad I did.
BlueSky Posted July 6, 2016 #13 Posted July 6, 2016 I broke or pulled tobacco all day for $7 four days a week in the hot sun for a couple of months in the summer during high school. Hated tobacco! Never smoked! That's only one bad habit I don't have!!
Kybigmac Posted July 6, 2016 #14 Posted July 6, 2016 I quit the same way, had the flu, been sick all day throwing up. When my wife came home she was smoking and I smelled it and told her to get that thing away from me! That was 2000, haven't had one since and still can't stand the smell! Good luck with quitting you don't need them and think of all the money your wasting that could be used for gas and trips.
Air Ready Auto Posted July 6, 2016 #15 Posted July 6, 2016 I quit when my oldest daughter told me I smelled bad... Been 2 years now. Still dip and enjoy the occasional cigar/pipe.
Venturous Randy Posted July 13, 2016 #17 Posted July 13, 2016 Well, how's it going on the non smoking? Randy
