Freebird Posted June 22, 2016 #1 Posted June 22, 2016 I just saw an add in our Ebay listings of somebody trying to sell what they claim is a factory built Yamaha Venture trike. This is the first I've ever heard of such a thing. He does say that he just recently bought it. I'm thinking that he was sold a bill of goods by the previous owner but I may be wrong. Have any of you ever heard of Yamaha actually building a trike?

He claims though that this one was built by the Yamaha factory. Flyinfool Posted June 22, 2016 #5 Posted June 22, 2016 I guess in about an hour this guy will find out that it don't always work that you can buy a vehicle, drive it for 2 years and expect to get back what you paid. IF that were a factory Yamaha trike, I would think that it would have complemented the lines of the bike at least a little bit and not just be a big square block. I think @Prairiehammer knows more about first gen models than anyone.

Flyinfool Posted June 22, 2016 #8 Posted June 22, 2016 To say that he bought it with the carbs just having been done but now it does not run right and given reason is bad gas tells me it has been sitting and not stored properly and carbs need to be done again. I also am not sure what the oil and dope are? It may have been worth the 6900 he paid 2 years ago when the tires were fresh and it was running good, but now needs work and is 2 years older and is not worth what he paid. Now that the ebay community has told him that it is worth 3600 might be the time to contact him to make a deal.

Notice the abrupt seam where material was added to the original Venture cover. Also, the cover has the heat resistant material along the bottom edge. I don't think that would be necessary on this trike. Never the less, Yamaha never made a "factory trike". In fact, no major motorcycle manufacturer ever produced a trike from their factory, excepting, of course Harley Davidson and even their trike was never intended as a highway tourer. (The newish Tri-Glide is a highway cruiser, but back in the day the Servi-car was a utility vehicle with a rigid rear axle, ie. no suspension.) The current seller got fed a line by the previous owner, who in turn may have been sold a line of BS by another owner or by a dealer? The trike body is unidentifiable. There are some elements that resemble parts of a Tri-Wing, some parts that are reminiscent of vintage Motor Trike. It looks like a pure custom job, to me. Whoever created it did a pretty good job, though. The esthetics are questionable, but details like the built in wrap around tail lights and the double trunk are novel. The matching paint and the use of the 1987 Venture saddlebag latches to secure the trunk lid are what prolly fooled the current owner. Edited June 22, 2016 by Prairiehammer

cowpuc Posted June 23, 2016 #12 Posted June 23, 2016 Just thinking out loud here,,,, back somewhere in that day and age our local Honda shop started selling brand new triked (converted) Wings out of their showroom.. I was not into trikes at the time but know they were busy enough with trikes that they had a salesman dedicated to them.. I suppose it's possible that a Yamaha shop somewhere was doing the same thing and some unknowing buyer thought he really was buying a true factory trike - hard to imagine some parts guy didnt correct em thru the years though if he ever tried to order rear brake parts or something...

Those 2nd Gens are just too Fugly to make a good looking machine although Craig's is a pretty BLUE!! I've watched several older wings. I've figured out what the problem is.... I DON"T WANT NO STINKING TRIKE!!!
