What is the best gasket sealant for around the stator cover. I got 2 leaks yet stator and rear valve cover. I replaced the valve cover gasket last winter and did not seal. So one more time on that one.

I worked for a Chrysler dealer years ago, the Mopar black silicone gasket sealant is far superior to the permatex or the over the counter sealers at the auto parts stores. IMHO

When you replaced your valve cover gasket did you ALSO replace the rubber grommets on the valve cover bolts?? If you don't replace them then the gasket will never seal because the bolts bottom out and the rubber is already compressed and set in a compressed state. Yes, a set of those grommets is expensive, soo, there is a poor man's fix, put washers on top of the grommet so that the bolt can push down more because it now has a little further to go to bottom out. Actually because the bolt bottoms out that is the main reason people snap them when tightening them...

Did you completely clean the surfaces of the stator cover and block before installing the new gasket?? They very rarely leak. One area that DOES leak is the rubber gasket that the 3 stator wires feed through. Just like the head bolt gaskets, they too loose their ability to seal once they are disturbed. Clean the areas like surgically spotless and use a thin coat of RTV to seal off. It will also leak at the holes that the wire goes through.

I like YamaBond, have used a fair amount of #5 thru the years - always did fine by me (in a pinch - works AWESOME for sealing holes in carb diaphrams too).. What ever you use, clean surfaces are mandatory.. Also, be careful about not over applying - you dont wanna get pieces of sealant in the oil system..

We used the permatex gold on hot oily bits in the race shop. Red also works good. Hey Puc these sealants we have available now sure beat the heck out of choices years ago dont it. Permatex "aircraft gasket sealer" and yellow dog. If ya rode 2 strokes you all know what yellow dog is. LOL
