Old Buck Posted June 19, 2016 #1 Posted June 19, 2016 Just purchased an 84 Venture with 30k on it. In going through it I found that the saddle bags don't seal tight and leak. There is a little adjustment in the catches but not enough to make a difference. It appears that finding new seals might prove difficult. Has anyone resealed their saddle bags before or possibly modified the latches to allow more adjustment for a tighter seal? Thanks Old Buck
Venture n Dixie Posted June 19, 2016 #2 Posted June 19, 2016 (edited) http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?91963-water-leaks&highlight=Leak That thread is for the trunk. Haven't found the thread about using window screen spline on the bags. Seems like there is large and small spline and I think the large is the correct size. Will keep searching for that thread. I'm curious also. Edited June 19, 2016 by Venture n Dixie
Old Buck Posted June 19, 2016 Author #3 Posted June 19, 2016 Now that sounds like a plan! Been racking my brain trying to figure out something that might work. Thanks Venture n Dixie for pointing me in the right direction. Old Buck
Yammer Dan Posted June 20, 2016 #4 Posted June 20, 2016 You are on the right track. Been a while since I done that but got mine at Lowe's. If I remember right you can look at it and guess right size when you go to store.
Prairiehammer Posted June 21, 2016 #5 Posted June 21, 2016 The Yamaha part number for the saddlebag and trunk gasket/seal is 54K-2847F-00-00. There is a seller on eBay offering the seal. http://www.ebay.com/itm/TRAVEL-TRUNK-LID-SADDLEBAG-SEAL-54K-2847F-00-XVZ12-XVZ13-1983-1993-/331204614483?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4d1d555953&vxp=mtr&rmvSB=true
