Mad Dog Posted June 15, 2016 #1 Posted June 15, 2016 So .... Seems like my 2-1/2 year old OEM shock is dead or dying. Doesn't hold air for more than a day or two and then my rear is bumping rather soundly on our beautiful Rhode Island roads. I just realized this seond that I have an air fill extension on it... I'm going to remove that in case that is causing the air to leak out... but if it isn't... Any recommendations for a replacement shock. With 2-up we are carrying around 400 lbs. I suppose this isn't much more work than replacing the rear tire .... Poop.... I'm bummed... I'll let you guys know if I solve it by removing the air stem extension... Thanks
Freebird Posted June 15, 2016 #3 Posted June 15, 2016 I would be looking for an air leak at a fitting or something. That is not how they usually fail. It is usually the oil that starts leaking and even then they do not lose air. What you are describing is very unusual and if fact, I've personally never heard of it happening.
Yammer Dan Posted June 15, 2016 #4 Posted June 15, 2016 What Don said. Not how a shock waves goodbye. Get some soap bubbles and look for air leak. Kind of hard to do on these critters but may be a quick find. I'm not up on 2nd Gen air systems....didn't get one with mine.....
WildBill1 Posted June 15, 2016 #5 Posted June 15, 2016 Spray your air line fittings with windex glass cleaner to check system for air leaks. Most bad shocks leak oil instead of air.
Mad Dog Posted June 16, 2016 Author #6 Posted June 16, 2016 I would be looking for an air leak at a fitting or something. Thanks and it seems so far, for tonights ride anyway, that it was the little extension I had on there. Thanks all.... panic has subsided
Mad Dog Posted June 16, 2016 Author #8 Posted June 16, 2016 See how easy "WE" fixed that one!!! Like magic! Well worth the price of admission
Yammer Dan Posted June 16, 2016 #9 Posted June 16, 2016 LOL I've had several of those moments. Some so simple you say How did I not see that?? And some that aren't so simple!!
