rickardracing Posted June 5, 2016 #1 Posted June 5, 2016 So I was out working on the Venture this afternoon doing some minor maintenence for the ride to Oberlin. Tightened up the steering head, check air tire pressure, make sure no cuts in the tires, add some air to the shock. I had noticed my radio/cb was loose. So I when I went to tighten the screws on the bottom of the radio....they were not loose. The case was all cracked. So I took the mirror off so I could get a better look and when I did, the bracket for the radio and the case fell apart. Ohhhhhhh Yamaha. Why, why, why? So after looking it over and coming to the conclusion that it is pretty much shot, I busted out the JB weld. It is now sitting and hardening. I will put it all back together tomorrow and see how long it lasts.
Eck Posted June 5, 2016 #2 Posted June 5, 2016 I'm surprised it broke. I just wonder if someone didn't try to take it and in doing so they broke it....or...another theory is someone walked by the bike and their elbow hit it and broke it maybe. That is a very unlikely problem on the Ventures. I have never heard of it before, but hey, I could be in the dark and just dont know too now.. Good luck with the repair. It looks like you did a good job on the repair.
Skid Posted June 5, 2016 #3 Posted June 5, 2016 I just changed the oil and washed my bike today in preparation for MD.
Dragonslayer Posted June 5, 2016 #5 Posted June 5, 2016 I just changed the oil and washed my bike today in preparation for MD. I polished the chrome and packed the bike with gear. It now looks like a 2nd gen Midnight Venture version of Tweeks 1

Dragonslayer Posted June 5, 2016 #7 Posted June 5, 2016 Leaving a bit early eh ? Nope, just fixn to. Come daylight Thursday morning I don't want to be messing around hunting junk.

It looks like you did a good job on the repair. That is what I was thinking. The case was really cracked. Bottom completely broken. I think maybe someone walked by and deliberately hit it. That case is pretty thick ABS plastic not prone to breakage of this sort.
Condor Posted June 6, 2016 #9 Posted June 6, 2016 I'm wondering if some of that UV reactive glue they're advertising on TV would work on our plastics. My dentist uses it occasionally. Sure would make quick repairs... One demo shows them repairing a tooth brush...
rickardracing Posted June 6, 2016 Author #10 Posted June 6, 2016 I gave it a quick look on my way out the door to work this morning and it looks like the JB Weld is going to work. I pulled on the bracket and it seemed pretty solid. The real test will be once it is back on the bars and going down the road.
ragtop69gs Posted June 6, 2016 #11 Posted June 6, 2016 The controllers close proximity to the clutch makes it susceptible to splash from fluid when bleeding and cause the case to weaken. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
Marcarl Posted June 6, 2016 #12 Posted June 6, 2016 What's all this about cleaning and repairs,,, do we have to do that? really?
ragtop69gs Posted June 6, 2016 #13 Posted June 6, 2016 What's all this about cleaning and repairs,,, do we have to do that? really? Unlike you, we ride our bikes and because of that, they do need to be cleaned and maintained occasionally.

Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk Jay, there has never been any clutch fluid on there. The way the front face is cracked looks as if it was hit from behind. JB Weld I believe will work. I will find out Friday on the ride to Oberlin.
