rbig1 Posted May 29, 2016 #1 Posted May 29, 2016 Well I'm tired of messing with my 2001 motor. Does anyone know if a 2007 or up motor would go in? I know the carbs are bigger. So would have to replace them. If the exhaust and rest of parts would work that would be great. Then the only problem will be me getting it done. If I'm doing this want to upgrade. May even tackle v-max cams. First will have to sell a few things to pay for it, but that is fine got all the time in the world. But I'm done for this season. Was going to ride till it popped. Then got to thinking may kill other parts in processes that would be bad.
M61A1MECH Posted May 29, 2016 #2 Posted May 29, 2016 If you have a 2001 Venture, then yes any 1999 to 2013 Venture motor will bolt right in, they made no changes to the Venture motor or the bike for that matter from 1999 to 2013. If you have a 2001 Royal Star then it can be done it has been done but takes a bit of doing.
cecdoo Posted May 29, 2016 #3 Posted May 29, 2016 Whats wrong with your engine? that you think you need to replace it? Craig
rbig1 Posted May 29, 2016 Author #4 Posted May 29, 2016 Well it has the dreaded rod rattle when starting to move then after you get to speed you can here when exc. And running steady speed. Or there is a rod bent.
Lug Nut Posted May 29, 2016 #5 Posted May 29, 2016 I MAY have a low mileage perfect 1300 from a 2002 venture with Ivans jet kit installed...16k miles.... I don't know what these things typically go for though
vzuden Posted May 30, 2016 #6 Posted May 30, 2016 rbig, Diamond cut Mike had an engine last fall. He's located pretty close to you
rbig1 Posted June 2, 2016 Author #7 Posted June 2, 2016 (edited) well took off pan looks like new in there. The 3and 4 cyl rods have more movement than others. Will have to wait till kid shows up so I can see what is going on when rotating. There has to be a problem as if you try to just take off it sounds like a rod is going to kiss ya. And if you lug the engine it knocks. If I can find the problem now might be able to save it. When engine is louder than the exhaust and exhaust is slash cuts. Edited June 2, 2016 by rbig1 not done talking
BlueSky Posted June 2, 2016 #8 Posted June 2, 2016 Plastigage can be used to check bearing clearances. I suppose it is still available.
