My current zero turn snapper is a 52" or 54"...can't remember for sure. I bought it primarily because of all the bushes and etc. that Eileen has planted over the years and I figured it would be easier to get between things. I think I will be OK with the 61 but still may consider the 52 when the time comes. As for the Briggs engine, I've done some reading on some of the commercial mower sites and opinions are all over the place. Some swear by the Kawasaki but others have had problems. Some love the Kohler IF you get the right model. Same with Briggs. Like I said, my Snapper has a 21HP Briggs Vanguard and it has been a pretty darn good motor. It has 2000 hours on it and still doesn't smoke or have any major issues. I did have some problems a few years ago when it bent the push rods. They are very easy to replace but I was out of town and my brother in law took it upon himself to do it. He overtightened and valve rocker on one side and stripped the threads in the head. I tried to helicoil it but it didn't hold so I ended up putting a new head on it. Even that was only about $300.00. Now the fuel solenoid appears to be bad and they around hundred bucks. So about $400.00 worth of repairs in 2000 hours and 10 years. That's really not too bad at all and I'm sure that the bent rods were because I neglected the valve adjustments. I honestly can't complain about the Briggs Vanguard. Now these commercial Huskies have the 27 HP Briggs Endurance motor. It is supposed to be a commercial motor. I don't know anything about them except that they do have the large cylinder type commercial air cleaner.

My 50 inch Cadet will knock it down in a hurry if you don't have to dodge too many things. If I left today I might get there by MD and could avoid getting that Big Silver thing!!!:Avatars_Gee_George:

When looking at motors , look to see if it uses automotive type construction in the motor. Many use no bearings and only a thin film of oil separates aluminum from Steel. Greasable spindles are a must. How easy is it to remove and sharpen the blades.

We have a Scag and a Grasshopper at work and the Scag is the mower of choice for all of us.

I'm going to try and put this on the back burner for now. Mine is running like new again. A lot of hours on it so who knows but for now, it's doing what it's supposed to.

So did you ask? Was it the fuel solenoid?

Yes it was. Plus he said that some idiot who had the carb apart to clean it put the float in upside down. After he replaced the bad solenoid, it still wasn't getting any gas. Go figure. Have NO idea who it would have been. :8:
