leo3wheel Posted May 29, 2016 #1 Posted May 29, 2016 Just got a new Zumo 660 and reading through the literature. Currently use a car GPS attached to DC outlet. Zumo 660 can be used the same way or hard wired. When it comes to hard wiring the Zumo, see that power cable has headphone/audio out and microphone jacks. Can someone tell me how to attach these jacks to the RSV audio system? Can I buy molded cables and just plug in somewhere or do I have to get more creative. Trying to size up this project before pulling gas tank. Thanks!
Freebird Posted May 29, 2016 #2 Posted May 29, 2016 Well, you could plug the audio out jack right into the aux of the cassette deck. That will route the sound through your bikes system as long as you have it set on "AUX". As for the microphone though, about your only option is a special cable if you want to use it through your headset. @BuddyRich used to make and sell a cable just for that but I'm not sure if he still has any. I know he was having a problem finding some of the parts that he needed.
bongobobny Posted May 29, 2016 #4 Posted May 29, 2016 Yup! Or, for a neater looking installation split the fairing and install a 3.5mm stereo headphone splitter on the line coming from the main audio unit at the junction and plug in there. That way you don't have your cassette door dangling open all the time!
Freebird Posted May 29, 2016 #5 Posted May 29, 2016 Agree. That's what I did on the '99 and is how I will do this one. Haven't split the fairing yet but will add the splitter when I take it apart to wire the GPS.
leo3wheel Posted May 29, 2016 Author #6 Posted May 29, 2016 Sounds good. Will discuss at maintenance day.
Guest Jamsie Posted May 29, 2016 #7 Posted May 29, 2016 I use a zumo , but i use bluetooth connection to my scalarider headset
bongobobny Posted May 29, 2016 #8 Posted May 29, 2016 OK Leo buy the splitter from Wally world, etc and bring it to MD, we'll get 'er done...
Yammer Dan Posted May 30, 2016 #10 Posted May 30, 2016 With my understanding of things that don't require a BFH and a wrench I'm still not sure what I have. One of the reasons I haven't got into that mess on the horn. I've "looked" at it 100 times. Just can't see anything wrong. Will the 99 put Tom Tom sound thru to headsets??
bongobobny Posted May 30, 2016 #11 Posted May 30, 2016 Yes it will Dan, as long as HS (Headsets) is selected, same as for radio and CB...
leo3wheel Posted May 31, 2016 Author #12 Posted May 31, 2016 Bob, In addition to the splitter, do I need a cable to go from the GPS power cable to the splitter? If so, about how long? Thanks!
bongobobny Posted May 31, 2016 #13 Posted May 31, 2016 Yes!! 6 footer should suffice, if we need longer, there's a Walmart near Don's, or I'm sure a Radio Shack, etc somewhat close. It just has to follow the handlebars down to the middle then into the fairing sort of like where the power lines for the passing lights enter. Once inside the fairing it's about a foot max up to where the splitter is going to be hooked up. It needs to be male on both ends, unless your Garmin mount needs female on it's side.
ragtop69gs Posted May 31, 2016 #14 Posted May 31, 2016 Yes!! 6 footer should suffice, if we need longer, there's a Walmart near Don's, or I'm sure a Radio Shack, etc somewhat close. bongobobny Posted May 31, 2016 #16 Posted May 31, 2016 Yah! Jay is right, a 3 footer! I was sort of sleeping at midnight! Anything 3 foot or more, the excess will be stored inside the fairing...
leo3wheel Posted May 31, 2016 Author #17 Posted May 31, 2016 Okay, have the audio splitter and 4' cable. Ready to roll...
bongobobny Posted May 31, 2016 #18 Posted May 31, 2016 COOL!! I will bring metric allen wrenches and 6mm wrenches to split the fairing! Do you have passing lights on yours Leo?? If so we will also have to loosen them to get the fairing apart...
Freebird Posted May 31, 2016 #19 Posted May 31, 2016 If you forget anything, I have ball end allen wrenches.
cecdoo Posted May 31, 2016 #22 Posted May 31, 2016 Leo, ya mite want to pick up some black wire ties, If you dont have any let me know I will bring a handful along. THey sure help tidy the wires up. Craig
bongobobny Posted June 1, 2016 #23 Posted June 1, 2016 Good idea Craig!! I have a handful of white/clear in my utility container in my trunk but an extra supply would be appreciated...
leo3wheel Posted June 1, 2016 Author #24 Posted June 1, 2016 We must be doing some ESP. Bought black ties when I bought the splitter. Just didn't mention it.
