oldgoat Posted May 28, 2016 Share #1 Posted May 28, 2016 a while back my friend bought this bike I rode it and it was fine. but some time back someone repainted it and it was sharp looking up until now. as who ever painted the bike did a nasty bondo or patch job on the tank. it is bubbling where the work was done and leaking gas. well it is weeping right now. but behind that peeling paint is rust where a dent or the old badge emblems where? we do not believe we can fix this. so he is looking for a gas tank if any one knows where he can get one please let me know ebay has a few but the prices are out of this world. some as high as $400 and need work? thanks oldgoat
cowpuc Posted May 28, 2016 Share #2 Posted May 28, 2016 Hey Goat,, another alternative is sealing the tank.. I had to do a number of tanks throughout the years and can tell you from experience this stuff: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Red-Kote-Quart-Coat-Gas-Oil-Diesel-Fuel-Tank-Sealer-Liner-Patch-Hit-Miss-Engine-/131533413846?hash=item1ea0009dd6:m:m_t7zDtTPyVjhKTiiBBgucg&vxp=mtr Is the best of the best!! Far better than Kream Koat (the white stuff) - this stuff will actually make a tank within your old tank.. Very very little prep work necessary - if you read on the label you will even see where you can apply it right over rust - they arent joking,, it works that good!! I found it years ago when I was in a radiator shop and they were using it commercially... Good stuff!!
oldgoat Posted May 28, 2016 Author Share #3 Posted May 28, 2016 might look into that as I have done the cream coat and it worked but you had to be fast or it started to set up quick. can this also be used on the out side where the rust is inside that dent they patched up? cowpuc Posted May 28, 2016 Share #4 Posted May 28, 2016 Yep,, should work fine!!!
slowrollwv Posted May 28, 2016 Share #5 Posted May 28, 2016 Yep,, should work fine!!! Puc I see that this stuff stays flexible. Putting bondo over it may cause an air pocket. I guess I will find out though, I just ordered a can for my sons Sabre.
