DblTrbl Posted May 18, 2016 #1 Posted May 18, 2016 Does anyone know the secret to keep the chrome windshield trim from lifting up? I was very careful putting it back on and even added the foam damper to the back of the trim however the trim piece continues to lift leaving a gap between it and the fairing in which the plastic tabs are visible.
XV1100SE Posted May 18, 2016 #2 Posted May 18, 2016 Sounds like you have the common broken tabs. See http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?516-Repair-of-chrome-windshield-trim to repair them.
DblTrbl Posted May 18, 2016 Author #3 Posted May 18, 2016 Sounds like you have the common broken tabs. See http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?516-Repair-of-chrome-windshield-trim to repair them. All tabs are intact and unbroken. I bought a new trim piece to replace the one with broken tabs. I even bought and installed the damper that goes behind the trim..
XV1100SE Posted May 18, 2016 #4 Posted May 18, 2016 If the tabs are all there....then it shouldn't be lifting. Possible the receivers where the tabs fit in are broken?
DblTrbl Posted May 19, 2016 Author #5 Posted May 19, 2016 If the tabs are all there....then it shouldn't be lifting. Possible the receivers where the tabs fit in are broken? no, they are fine also... I'm going to try a modification to the tabs...may or may not work...
sfcrader Posted May 19, 2016 #6 Posted May 19, 2016 Had the same problem, come to find out the center tab was not locking under the open in the fairing. When looking at the center tab it has a small lip that snaps or hook under the opening in the faring. Mine was about 1/16 of an inch away, I used 2 small pieces of double sided tape and tape to the fairing open towards the front.
DblTrbl Posted May 19, 2016 Author #7 Posted May 19, 2016 I was going to try the two sided tape. thanks for sharing that info. Also, it is the middle tab that will not catch...drives me crazy to see it lifted up whenever I stop. Thanks again!!
WildBill1 Posted May 19, 2016 #8 Posted May 19, 2016 Try loosing the two end screws slightly before you do any modifying. You can get those screws to tight and that will cause it too arch up in the middle.
DblTrbl Posted May 20, 2016 Author #10 Posted May 20, 2016 What sux is you shouldn't have to "rig" something with tape or Velcro for it to fit correctly.....that drives me crazy....but as some folks have told me...don't sweat it...you are within walking distance (of crazy)...LOL
