GolfVenture Posted May 16, 2016 #1 Posted May 16, 2016 I've been thinking of listing my 91 VR engine on ebay, but have procrastinated. It hasn't been high on my priority list. It is off the 91 VR that I wrecked in 2012. I purchased it from the original owner in 2011 with only 6500 miles and was in beautiful condition. It currently has about 9500 miles on it. I know that anything for sale is only worth what one can get for it. But I'm not in a hurry to sell it. Whats your recommendations on an asking price on Ebay?
jfman Posted May 16, 2016 #2 Posted May 16, 2016 Pretty certain someone with high miles and a bad second gear will want it. But at the same time I been trying to sell a low mileage DL1000 motor for 250$ and no one wants it.
bongobobny Posted May 16, 2016 #3 Posted May 16, 2016 The big problem selling an engine on Ebay is nobody wants to pay the shipping on something heavy like an engine! That and most people are afraid of buying a used engine off Ebay and rightfully so because there are sooooo many dishonest people out to make a buck...
cowpuc Posted May 16, 2016 #4 Posted May 16, 2016 Hi GnV! Just talking off the cuff here,,, you talking about the complete motor, carbs, TCI all in one package or you talking just the motor? Sorry to hear about the crash brother but glad your OK!!
GolfVenture Posted May 16, 2016 Author #5 Posted May 16, 2016 Hi GnV! Just talking off the cuff here,,, you talking about the complete motor, carbs, TCI all in one package or you talking just the motor? Sorry to hear about the crash brother but glad your OK!! Engine, and TCI, and carbs. However the carbs are off my 89 VR and the carbs needs to be cleaned probably better yet overhauled. Would also be interested in selling the exhaust system.
GolfVenture Posted May 16, 2016 Author #6 Posted May 16, 2016 I would like to install it on my 89 VR, but that just seems to be a lot of work. My 89 VR has only 26k miles and runs really good.
cowpuc Posted May 16, 2016 #7 Posted May 16, 2016 Couple of things,,, a quick check on Ebay for a motor shows the prices pretty wide spread BUT - most of those motors are motor only.. My guess is that a "Buy It Now" for 600 bucks plus shipping with the "make an offer" option engaged will end up with multiple offers in the 3 to 4 hundred range... Getting over that $500 mark may be a toughy but ya never know till ya try!! I totally agree with Bongo on his comment but keep in mind,, it seems like that is a two way street these days.. Bidders not fulfilling their "bid contract" seems to be a common factor too these days.. Being under no time constraints, I would figure out what I needed for it and stick it on our site and maybe in Craigs first GnV... Sure seems like anyone looking to replace their motor would be drawn to yours in particular seeing that its not even broke in yet
