RSV radiator fan

Where do I look in order to see the radiator fan? Can it be see while sitting on the bike? We were stuck in bumper to bumper stop and go traffic yesterday and the engine heat was VERY noticeable as we sat there. I did not have a dash light come on.

Directly behind the radiator between the front cylinders and front down tube. When I sit in traffic and I start to notice the extreme heat on my legs and inner thighs its because my fan just turn on and is blowing all that hot air across the engine and directly towards me. I was to concerned and surprise by how much heat comes of these bikes but if no light and it's not gurgling or overflow isn't spewing than things should be good. I plan on doing the temp gauge mod soon just so the control freak in me can know exactly what is going on.

When it kicks on, you can hear it, it's sort of a whirring sound...
