Mad Dog Posted May 8, 2016 #1 Posted May 8, 2016 Changing my rear tire. I saw Freebirds tutorial, which is working great but it says I need a 1-1/6" socket for the rear axel main bolt. So ... thats not a regular thing, and it converts to something like 29.5mm which isn't a real thing either. Since I need to buy this socket can someone please let me know what size it is?? Thanks
bongobobny Posted May 8, 2016 #2 Posted May 8, 2016 Hmmmm, been a while!! I sort of remember it being 29mm but don't quote me. The 1 1/16 will work but it is a loose fit. If you decide to buy the metric socket, do yourself a favor and spend just a little more than the single socket and buy a set, then you will have other sizes if and when the need arises...
Freebird Posted May 8, 2016 #3 Posted May 8, 2016 Sorry...that is a Typo. I will correct it. I think that Bob is correct that 1 1/16 is correct or the metric equivalent would be even better. I know that it torques to 110 ft. lbs. when you are reassembling it.
Mad Dog Posted May 8, 2016 Author #4 Posted May 8, 2016 Sorry...that is a Typo. I will correct it. I think that Bob is correct that 1 1/16 is correct or the metric equivalent would be even better. I know that it torques to 110 ft. lbs. when you are reassembling it. No problem. The 1-1/16 will convert to 29.5mm so it probably calls for a 29mm. Thanks for the great tutorial, I am following it step by step and it is a great help. Thank you for doing that.
Freebird Posted May 8, 2016 #5 Posted May 8, 2016 You are welcome but credit actually goes to "Cougar". He originally did the write-up and I just posted it to the tech library.
Gray Ghost Posted May 9, 2016 #6 Posted May 9, 2016 ...it converts to something like 29.5mm which isn't a real thing either. Since I need to buy this socket can someone please let me know what size it is?? Thanks Your math is off somewhere. 1 1/16 is 26.99mm, close enough to fit the 27mm rear axle bolt. SAE to Metric chart 5/16 = 7.94 3/8 = 9.53 7/16 = 11.11 1/2 = 12.7 9/16 = 14.29 5/8 = 15.88 11/16 = 17.46 3/4 = 19.05 13/16 = 23.81 1 = 25.4 1 1/16 = 26.99 1 1/8 = 28.58
bongobobny Posted May 9, 2016 #7 Posted May 9, 2016 Gray Ghost may be right, and it is a 27mm!! Sorry, I haven't had to torque the rear axle since I converted to trike in '11...
