Lug Nut Posted May 4, 2016 #1 Posted May 4, 2016 I recently reached my stock running lights with GE Halogen units. Super brite and nice. I split my gaining and installed an internal antenna and put a halogen headlight bulb in, and removed the headligjt visor. Bike sit for a couple weeks and when I rode it a couple days ago I noticed the running lights were not on. I didn't see a fuse for them. Assuming I didn't punch a wire putting the fairing back on what should I look at first? Thanks
bongobobny Posted May 5, 2016 #3 Posted May 5, 2016 The fuse for the lights should be an inline fuse inside the upper fairing.. One of the biggest wiring problems with them is where the wires exit the light bar. Vibrations chaff the wire and eventually it shorts out there.
RedRider Posted May 5, 2016 #4 Posted May 5, 2016 Lugnut, Which lights are you referring to? The 'stock' running lights are also the turn signals. Many Ventures have the auxiliary running light bars with PAR36 bulbs in them as a replacement for the stock light bar. If it is the aux light bar, the installer usually puts a button switch in the inner faring next to the 12V outlet (clutch side, down low). Make sure this is on. Hopefully, that is all this is so you don't need to split the 'gaining' again . RR
bongobobny Posted May 5, 2016 #5 Posted May 5, 2016 AHHHH!!! Red Rider makes an excellent point!! I Ass-U-ME'd you were talking about the passing lights not the turn/parking lights. I also ass u me'd you knew where your passing lights on/off switch was...
Lug Nut Posted May 5, 2016 Author #6 Posted May 5, 2016 I think they are passing lights....not the turn signals but the clear big round ones. I rode and they are on. Apparently they don't come on with key-on have to be running! Everything works fine....thanks for the input.
bongobobny Posted May 6, 2016 #7 Posted May 6, 2016 OK!! A lot depends on how the original installer wired them!! They may have been wired as "Running" lights or "Passing" lights, the difference being whether or not they were wired to the ignition or high beams! Passing is wired to the high beams whereas running is tied to the ignition usually to the low beam... As running lights, they SHOULD come on with the headlight...
Lug Nut Posted May 7, 2016 Author #8 Posted May 7, 2016 I believe these are factory and in found a pushbutton next to 12v outlet inside the fairing that controls the driving lights. I bet I pushed it when I was messing with the fairing.
