JamesLjohnston Posted April 29, 2016 #1 Posted April 29, 2016 Every now and then bike seems like it's starving for gas and then quits. When I play with the kill switch it will start again. Any help will be good. Thanks J.J. jj19560213@shaw.ca
BlueSky Posted April 29, 2016 #2 Posted April 29, 2016 From past posts on this forum, I would suspect the fuel pump.
Yammer Dan Posted April 29, 2016 #3 Posted April 29, 2016 Next time it quits open tank and see if you hear air noise as you open lid. Vent may be plugged. Vacum will keep gas from flowing and cause bike to quit . Sitting may give it chance to pull air into tank.
cowpuc Posted April 29, 2016 #4 Posted April 29, 2016 Is it worse when the tank gets lower on fuel? Fill the tank and see if it helps..
Bert2006 Posted April 29, 2016 #5 Posted April 29, 2016 When you go to start it, right after turning the key, do you still hear the fuel pump clicking. If not it would be the pump. If yes, check the gaz cap as suggested or it could be a clogged fuel filter.
Ky. Rider Posted April 29, 2016 #6 Posted April 29, 2016 These bikes also have a fuel pump relay. I had to replace mine but the symptoms were it would shut down for 15 - 20 minutes and then be good to go again.
JamesLjohnston Posted April 30, 2016 Author #7 Posted April 30, 2016 Thank you everyone for your responses!! :-) I have ordered a new fuel pump and will see. I first ordered it from Yamaha they wanted $341.00 CDN and found one on Ebay for $26.00 and that's with exchange and shipping. Thanks again!!

Just be aware that some of the cheap pumps do not have a check valve in them and you risk having a fuel leak into your cylinders with the resulting hydrolock. Rods get bent and then its major damage to the engine. That is why I went with stock. Also you can repair these pumps by changing the points. Thats what I did with my old one and kept it as a spare.
Bigdogcc Posted May 3, 2016 #9 Posted May 3, 2016 I bought the 26 buck one and it was DOA. I hope you have better luck
