White Wall Tires - YES or NO? Please dont just vote NO cause your skeerd...

The Bossman just picked up a GORGEOUS "new" scoot - WOW ZZZZ WOW WOW WOW is it PURDY!! (see this link if you haven't seen Don's new bike yet - http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?118738-Well-I-guess-I-m-no-longer-bike-less ).. Some of us think the really cool White Wall tires on that purdy Black 2nd Gen are,, well,, REALLY COOL.. Others,,, not so much..

In an effort to genuinely welcome Freebird's bike to her new home I thought it would be befitting to have a club poll and see who likes those pretty White Walls and who does not.. I can tell you upfront that I LOVE THEM!!

I do not care for them there white walls at all, no sir. Well maybe OK on his scoot if he's the one crawling around cleaning them. But they dont stay white long unless the bike is parked. Brake dust and road grim fouls them up purdy quick. So to keep him out ride'n stead of cleanin. Thats my vote.

I'm a fan of white walls on the second gens. Gives the bike an old school look. They don't look right on every bike, raised white letters look good on the first gens.

The 2nd Gens have that old school cool look and the 1st Gen's,, well,, they have that LEAD - FOLLOW - OR GET OUT OF MY WAY hot rod look and feeling about em = definitely high end, high strung stallion freedom seekin thing happening..

I also have a Midnight with lots of chrome like The Boss just picked up, IMHO the white walls just add to the look, as for cleaning them a sos pad does it quick and easy.

I have SOS pads and Bleche White in the garage. I'll try them until it's time to replace them but likely won't go back with them. We'll see. I think they look fine but not only do I not look forward to keeping them clean but the tires that I prefer don't come in whitewalls. Maybe I'll change my mind.....we'll see.

I like the w/w tires on the midnight. They give that "old style" look to it. On my '09 Red/Raven I don't think they'd look as good.

 

What brand tires are on the bike now? How old are they (I'm sure you'll check the date code anyway)? What tires do you prefer?

I'm not even sure but I think they are Dunlops. I'll know more when I pick it up on Friday. I've had good luck with the Michelin Commanders but my preference has been the Avons. That being said, from the reports that I've read, I would probably try the Dunlop E3 next time.

I like WWs but I am not running them as all that is available in WW is crap (they don't last and handling is bad). I am on my second set of CMII's and got 12k on my last set and they still ran like new.

Don, I have had several sets of E3's and have averaged 15,000 miles on each set (excluding flats). I won't use anything else on a bike this heavy. I also found t he the Harley dealers in my area don't sell them because they are "High Speed" tires. If they came in W/W I'd have a set on my bike.

I have never seen any vehicle that I thought looked good with WW tires. I guess they just are not my thing. But then I have always been a bit different............

Don, I'm an old fat guy with bad knees and don't have any problem cleaning my WWWs. I always wash the bike on the lift and have a little roll around seat that I use when cleaning the tires and wheels. Piece of cake. Takes no time at all. But you have to stay after them and don't let the dirt get ahead of you. I use Wesley's and a stiff brush. I do wish I could get something other then the Dunlop 404.

Whitewalls look good on a black bike. Cleaning whitewalls is easy ... just spray them with Fantastic, let it sit a couple minutes (no more) and hose off with a full pressure nossle . Do this on a regular basis and you'll never have to get down on your knees and scrub 'em!

I am too lazy to clean them. If a person likes them, they need to go for it. Old school vehicles or old school looking would look fine in my opinion. They look OK in BWs also. Haven't thought about raised white letters. I like them on cars back in the day.

Heck, I aint skeered, just don't like em. When I dream of motorcycles, I see black and chrome, no white needed! Maybe when Freebird wears them out and buys blackwalls, he can take a picture and let us compare them side by side.

Get rid of the whitewalls. They make you and the bike look old and slow. (Hence the "old school" comments).
