Venture Front Fork question

I have a question for those more in the know than I.... Last night I began the task of doing the "fork lowering" trick, with thanks to clear instructions of several members here. I marked the forks with pencil, and proceeded to loosen the clamps on the upper triple-tree. It was a little stubborn to move at first. I have the bike on a motorcycle jack, with the tires just barely off the ground. I went around to the front of the bike and wiggled the tire forward and backwards, and it then moved freely. The problem is, it slid the "wrong" direction just enough to wipe off my reference marks. I think I found what looked like where they had been and went with it. I'm still putting things back together at this point. Can someone confirm a couple of measurements for me please. I measured 7 7/16" from the top of the triple tree clamp to the top of the outer edge of the fork tubes for what I "THINK" was the original starting point. After the change, I measure 8 3/8" from same points.

I am reasonable confident that I'm pretty close on this. If you have not done this job yet, use something other than PENCIL to mark your starting points !! I know many of you have done this job....some have done several bikes. Do my measurements sound close ?? The bike is still on the stand at this time. Thanks guys.

Your on the right track for an approx. 1" plus in lowering your bike. Just follow the instructions and perform each step and don't forget the SS fork shields. Also, good time too check and lube those gooseneck bearing while everything is open.

Well, it looks like my guess was pretty good on the dimensions in question. Very nice difference in feel and handling. I can now relate clearly with the feedback of others that had lowered their front ends. Thanks for sharing your experiences with the rest of us !! That made the job much easier. The ONLY drawback for me, was by lowering the front, it opened up the spacing between the upper and lower fairings & deflectors by an inch as well. Now there is a slight increase in felt wind pattern on my knee-caps. This will be more welcome in hot weather, but not much when it is still in the low 40's ! All in all, very pleased with the final results !!
