Didn't even ride it and had to make a warranty claim.....put the key in the top box and unlocked it, put all the paperwork in the box from the sale, along with the owners manual. Then locked the box......the key will not come out. Two sales guys are standing there watching me, so they try it. The key will not come out. They roll it into the shop and the service guys work at it. The key will not come out.

So I have a new bike with one key, while they contact Yamaha to try and figure out how to get the key out of the cylinder. They kept the top box/trunk and will call me on Monday.

The taller, wider touring shield I ordered, didn't come in yet......sometime next week.

Man what an awesome ride, fast and light! 1200cc and almost 300lbs less then the Venture. :biker:

From advrider :

"Finally got the Yamaha topbox sorted out. What a fiasco. Bought a new aluminum Yamaha Topbox on fleabay four months ago. Screwed up the key cylinder while mounting using Yamaha's directions. Key stuck in box. Took the box to my Yamaha dealer. After they messed with it for a month, Yamaha replaced the box free of charge. The dealer installed the key cylinder. Now it works fine, except I have a different key for the box. No biggie, but I know other S10 owners that have had similar problems. If I install side panniers they will not be Yamaha brand. Nice boxes, crappy key situation. BTW, my dealer gave me installation directions that he received from Yamaha for dealers. This was not what I got with my original box. Yamaha seems to have left a few steps out for the general public."

Hopefully they fixed this....top box falls off - http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=2021.30

Don't think you should ride with the glove over the plate. You know what cops are like.

Thanks for that stuff on the locks Don. I had actually done some research on the Tenere before I went looking and had read the boxes had trouble with the locks. But Yamaha knows it and doesn't even question if a customer complains. Before I left the dealership Yamaha had said they would replace the whole box and ship a new one. The dealer just has to set up and match the cylinder for the one key system.

Hey I can explain officer....the wind blew off my glove.....Ya that's it....my glove blew off and landed on the plate.....no I didn't know the 407 Highway was a photo-toll road!

Wow!! Nice Bike.. If I wasn't riding two up most of the time that would be my choice in a bike as well.. Kind of HWY and go anywhere if the mood strikes bike.. Nice choice..

I really think it's missing a wheel somehow,,,, can't seem to grasp it right now, it's late at night. Hope you can learn to ride it the way it is,,looks like it might be a bit of fun,, just a bit!!!
