Trader Posted April 14, 2016 #1 Posted April 14, 2016 According to everything I've read these pads are the right ones for my bike BUT THEY ARE TOO WIDE! EBC FA123HH I was told I have a Mk I rear end in my 88...so it makes me wonder .... The rear caliper looks the same as on my 84 parts bike... is the Mk I rear caliper different from a mkII ? I already threw out the old pads so I don't have them to compare these pads for sure don't fit!
Trader Posted April 14, 2016 Author #2 Posted April 14, 2016 Ummmm Thanks Eck....I think Didn't come close to answering my question but now we all know we have to order 2 sets for the front of whatever bike:smile5:
SilvrT Posted April 14, 2016 #3 Posted April 14, 2016 ummmmmm... are those for the FRONT? And you mentioned REAR?
WildBill1 Posted April 14, 2016 #4 Posted April 14, 2016 You need rear pads to go in the pictured caliper. The pads pictured are front pads. Easy mix-up easy fix.

Trader Posted April 15, 2016 Author #6 Posted April 15, 2016 So is the "EBC FA123HH" designation the size of brake pad or part number or is that a material designation that is common to other size pads? you can see in the pic that it shows rear pads but the same OEM number. My order showed that I did order the rear pad.
cimmer Posted April 15, 2016 #7 Posted April 15, 2016 Yes the MK1 caliper are different from the MK2 calipers as the MK1a are twin piston caliper while the MK2s are 4 piston calipers. Those should fit you 88 VR but not the 83 or 84 VR. The MK1s take the FA88 type of pad with the ending letter being what material the pads are made from. I hope that helps you out. Rick F.

bongobobny Posted April 15, 2016 #9 Posted April 15, 2016 Yup!! MK2 rears are 4 piston calipers, same as the MK2 fronts... PS you can swap MK1 rear to MK2 rear IF you use the appropriate rear caliper bracket, AND the appropriate mounting spindle on the swing arm!
Trader Posted April 15, 2016 Author #10 Posted April 15, 2016 Makes me wonder if the back end of this bike got wiped out. MkI rear end and rear calipers.
