Rafterd Posted April 11, 2016 #1 Posted April 11, 2016 Having a problem with my CB. When I turn it on I get a cberr and it turns off. Done a lot of searching here and it seems to be clean the connections. Took faring apart cleaned all connectors, no change. Do more reading, and it seems the CB is under the trunk. Ok I need to take it apart and clean connections. But while reading, I saw several mentions about the CB antenna being on the left side, not right. Mine is on the right. My question is what difference would that make? Do I need to move them? Move the wiring too? Sorry to ask, just don't see why it matters. thanks Bill
Freebird Posted April 11, 2016 #2 Posted April 11, 2016 Yes, you need to move them. The CB antenna has a load coil that is absolutely needed by the CB. That being said, unless it has been used a lot and it has actually damaged the CB, it is not likely causing the error. It needs to be swapped though so do that first and try again. I've never known of the connections in the CB under the trunk needing to be cleaned. As for the antennas, it just the masts that you need to change. Simply screw them off an swap them. Will take you 5 minutes tops.
Rafterd Posted April 11, 2016 Author #3 Posted April 11, 2016 So the CB is wired for the left side? That means it was trying to talk through my radio antenna? The guy I bought it from said he never used the CB. My group does, and I've had nothing but trouble with it. I was mentioned the connection under the rear seat and trunk area need cleaning. Bill
Freebird Posted April 12, 2016 #4 Posted April 12, 2016 Yes. If you look at the cable coming out of the antenna base on the left side, you should find that it goes into the black plastic box under the trunk. That is where the CB is. Many dealers didn't know the difference and just screwed them on at random. There is a connection under the read seat and I have seen them come apart. That is possible that it just needs to be reseated or something. Easy enough to check.
Rafterd Posted April 12, 2016 Author #5 Posted April 12, 2016 (edited) Thanks guys. I changed antennas. Will pull rear seat and check the connection tomorrow. Edited April 12, 2016 by Rafterd
Gary N. Posted April 12, 2016 #6 Posted April 12, 2016 I've owned two different RSVs and have had this problem with both. Seems to be old age setting in. The first one was under warranty and the dealer never did get it to work again. Current one is out of warranty and I just gave up on it. Although come to think about it the last time I used it, I was talking to Marcarl. Maybe that had something to do with it. He does get long winded....LOL

I hardly use mine, mine receives and transmit well, most riders today do not have CB but I do ride with a group from time to time and they have CBs. I normally ride somewhere in the middle toward the back, I am a slow poke, I just listen. It is nice to be able to know a turn is coming up or something in the road, or we are stopping for another pee break........
Rafterd Posted April 12, 2016 Author #8 Posted April 12, 2016 Took the rear seat off, plug was about half unplugged. Cleaned connection, treated with Deoxit, put all back together, wrapped in electrical tape, and Voila it works!!! Thanks guys. Bill
