I got the 2nd Gen SS kit from Skydoc last year and am planning on installing them before Spring riding starts.

 

Does anyone recall seeing a write up on step-by-step how to do it? I saw a youtube video done on another brand of bike but it should be the identical process.

 

In the five years I've had my 2009 RSV, when clutch/brake fluids were changed, I didn't replace the master cylinder diaphragms. Thinking this time I should. To confirm, both clutch and brake parts are the same part numbers? Other than the diaphragms, should I get the "master cylinder kit" for both sides as well? Push rod or bushing?

Front Master Cylinder

Reservoir Diaphragm - p/n 4NK-25854-00

Master Cylinder Kit - 4K0-W0041-50-00

Front Master Cylinder (2)

Push Rod - 3GM-264-00-00

Bush - 3GM-26455-00-00

 

Which fluid should I use ? Brake DOT4/5/6 ? I think 5 was said to be a "no-no" and that 6 was better for heat.

I'm looking for advice on whether or not to replace the master cylinder diaphragms when I change out the brake/clutch lines to SS.

 

Also....DOT 4/5/6 ?

I'm a firm believer in if it ain't broke don't fix it. I put SS lines on my 2004 RSV two years ago. Didn't touch the master cylinders. Brakes great, (be careful, lot less pull - more brake). No leaks before or after. Only concern was I could not bleed the clutch. Had to wrap the lever over night, bled no problem next day.

As per discussion had some time ago, my memory says, change the lines, and go DOT 6. Seeing as you changed the fluid regularly the cylinders should be good, leave well enough alone.

As easy as the rear brake is to lock up on an RSV, putting braided SS line on the rear will only make lockup worse. the rubber line gives a bit, SS lines don't.

Putting them on the front will greatly enhance brake power and is a good upgrade.
